BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Seve O'Kelly. Who is he?

One of Grandad's old stories

Long, long time ago when I was young and I had finished university, I decided to spend a year in Britain. I searched and I found a course in the University of Salford, which is just next to Manchester, in Advanced English and Translation and Interpretation.

Well, I wanted to get the most out of it, so I went to the accomodation office in order to find a British family that could offer me a place to live because I didn't want to live in the university halls of residence with the other Spaniards. That is how I came to the door of a detached house, rang the bell and a two-metre bearded fellow opened the door. I had the address of a Mrs Kelly so I asked nervously trying to use my best English: "Could I please talk to Mrs Kelly?" and he replied in a rather loud way: "Do I look like Mrs Kelly?".
In fact he was Mr Kelly. He was Irish and quite fond of golf, so when I explained the purpose of my visit and that I came from Spain, he immediately invited me to an Irish coffee and re-baptized me with the name of SEVE in honour of SEVERIANO BALLESTEROS, who was really well-known in the 80s in Britain because he had won the British Open, the US Masters...
After that Irish coffee, meeting Mrs Kelly and the rest of the family, being invited to a huge dinner and being taken to the pub The Fox, where we had to leave the car because we were not in a very good state after a few pints of lager and Guinness, I decided I would stay with the Kelly's. That's why some time later I began to call myself SEVE O'KELLY (which was even my nick name at the school where I worked before because I also told my students about this story).

So you can make comments about SEVERIANO BALLESTEROS (you can also read something about him), or about the story I have just told you, or about how to make an Irish coffee.

Or anything you like, as for example the experience of living or travelling abroad, Manchester, Ireland....

  1. It’s a very interesting story. I hope I go abroad, because I would like so much to live on other country and to learn its manners. I hope I can go to any country where English is spoken. Going to other countries, travelling and learning manners and new people…this is fascinating to me!

  3. Severiano Ballesteros, one of the most important symbols of the national sport and of the whole world, he's the best golf player to me. Why? There are several reasons. This person started his career being a caddy, he was given his first brat when he was 8. A few years later he became someone very important in this sport, despite of he had a talent, he was a fighter. Unfortunately he suffered a stroke, although he went ahead with his life and he exceeded it, he got sick again, etc. I have to say there are few people like him, with his determination, his personality, etc.

    I always will remember him.

  4. The original Irish coffee was invented by a chef at Foynes, County Limerick, in the 1940's.
We must use materials such as:

25 ml / 1 fl oz Irish Whiskey (Irish whiskey).
    1 teaspoon brown sugar.
1 heaping tablespoon of whipped cream.
1 double coffee hot with a small measure of hot water to fill the glass.
Well, we must make the Irish coffee as follows:

    1. You must use the hot coffee cups and add the whiskey.
    2. Then add the sugar and dissolve it in the whiskey.
    3. Add coffee and stir well.
    4. Lightly beat the cream.
    5. Pour carefully with a spoon whipped cream over the surface of the coffee to stay afloat.
.... And ready to take !!

  5. Seve Ballesteros to me is an example of sacrifice and struggle. For me today, I think is an example of sports both nationally and worldwide. People are calling it an extraordinary golfer, the best of Spain and of all worlds. Palm has a huge trophy and all kinds of strokes in the fields of grass.
On October 6, 2008 he suffered a brain tumor which was operated on, after a battle and went ahead and Severiano suffer when the world admired him for his illness and sports such as Severiano worse and died on May 7, 2011, was a notica dramatic worldwide by the legend that was and will in the world of sport.
    I'm sure no one forgets.

  6. I have read the article Irish coffee.
if I were to Ireland I would not drink the coffee because I do not like it, otherwise the Irish coffee with whiskey and I do not like, so a mixture of both ... no!! I'd rather not try. If I was to Ireland I would prefer to try the Guinness, which is a typical drink in the pub.I think it will be better than coffee.

  9. The cafe looks good, but I don't like either the cafe or the whiskey separately so if I don't like, I doubt that I like them together ... I only drink coffee when I have exams and I haven't got time for study, is a good way to keep awake, but it's highly recommended, must sleep at night for a good performance in class.

  12. Irish coffee was invented by Jack Koeppler and Stanton Delaplane in 1952. Jack Koeppler was the owner of a tavern and Delaplane was a traveler. They invented the Irish coffee for travelers heated.
For prepare the coffee we mix black coffee, whysky and sugar. When it is mixed, we put it in the cup, after that, we put the cream above the coffee (the cream must be thick); and our Irish coffee is made!

  14. To me this is a clear example of struggle and dedication and as luck may influence a person's future. For many people Seve was a great person and athlete. I like going to a country like Severiano stranger, to meet new people, places and improve my language

    Recipe for an Irish coffee:
In a crystal cup strong, which are used for Irish coffee, add sugar and whiskey heat it with steam from the coffee. Then add the coffee and finally the cream. To make the cream stays on the surface and not mixed with coffee, we add very slowly over the convex part of a tablespoon. Decorate with cinnamon sprinkled on the top edge and ready to drink.

  15. Irish Coffee is a traditional taste of the Emerald Isle, with a powerful whiskey kick. So popular that the Irish host an annual festival in its honour! To make it you will need:

    1. 500 ml Hot Coffee
    2. 25 ml Irish Whiskey
    3. Brown sugar
    4. Double cream
    5. Hot water
    6. 1 Stemmed Glass
    7. 1 bar spoon
    8. 1 teaspoon
    9. 1 whisk

Fisrt, you have to put the cream in a jug or bowl, and whip lightly. Secondary, you have to hold the glass over some steaming water for a few seconds to heat it. This prevents it from cracking. Then that you have to put one teaspoon of sugar in the glass, use brown sugar if you can. After this, you have to add 25 millilitres of whiskey. Then, pour in the coffee leaving room at the top for the cream. And finally you have to spoon some of the whipped cream over the hot coffee. Don't mix it in, it should float on top.

    I wish you enjoy it!

  16. Oh! Living abroad must be a fantastic experience! I agree with Laura, I will also like to go to a foreign country and learn about the culture and the language. But for me any country, not only English speaking countries, is worth visiting. In the future, when I have the money and the time, I would like to travel to as many countries as posible and learn several languages. I have planned to apply for the Erasmus scholarship, when I am in the university, probably to study in UK.
I hope to meet people so nice as Albert did!
