BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

  20. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch artist who was born in 1853 and he died in 1890. His work was Post-impressionist, an artistic trend which followed on from the nineteenth century Impressionist movement. Nowadays Van Gogh is considered to be one of the 19th century's greatest artists. This recognition came too late, however. During his lifetime he sold only one single painting, La Vigne Rouge (The Red Vineyard). Van Gogh produced all his work in just ten years before suffering from mental illness and committing suicide. His fame rose quickly after his death.

Van Gogh was a painter very famous around the world. I knew he in the school when I was younger but I didn’t search about his life. Then, some years later, I saw one of his paintings and I began to interest for him and for his paintings. The painting which I saw was “Baby Marcelle Roulin, The”. It is a painting where appear a baby very beautiful. I liked this picture because in it we can see a baby and I like the babies.

I kwon that in Asterdam there is The Van Gogh Museum which is dedicated to the work of Van Gogh. It is a very modern building where are many paintings of Van Gogh. I knew this because my brother, who study Arts and he studied this painter, told me some months before that is a museum very famous and he like it very much. He would like visiting it so if he found a job and earn enough money, he will go to visit this museum!

From my point of view, Van Gogh, like other many painters, didn’t get the prestige when he was live. They have a bad life because they don’t have money to eat and anyone buys their paintings or if somebody buys a painting he do it for a very low price. Then when they die all the world want buy a painting of them. This shouldn’t be so because who enjoy the money? The painters, their family or a director of a museum? The painters don’t because they are die.

  21. Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work had far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His output includes portraits, self portraits, landscapes, still lifes, olive trees and cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers. Critics largely ignored his work until after his presumed suicide in 1890. His shortened life, highly expressive and spontaneous use of vivid colours, broad oil brushstrokes and emotive subject matter, mean he is recognisable both in the modern public imagination by his first name as the quintessential misunderstood genius and by art historians as a supreme and pivotal aestheticist.

Van Gogh was born to religious upper middle class parents. He was driven as an adult by a strong sense of purpose, but was also thoughtful and intellectual; he was equally aware of modernist currents in art, music and literature. He was well travelled and spent several years in his 20s working for a firm of art dealers in The Hague, London and Paris, after which he taught in England at Isleworth and Ramsgate. He drew as a child, but spent years drifting in ill health and solitude, and did not paint until his late twenties. Most of his best-known works were completed during the last two years of his life.

Vincent van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in Groot-Zundert, close to Breda, in the Catholic province of North Brabant in the southern Netherlands. He was the oldest surviving child of Theodorus van Gogh, a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church, and Anna Carbentus. Vincent was given the name of his grandfather and a brother, Vincent was a common name in the family, the painter's brother Theo was born on 1 May 1857. He had another brother, Cor, and three sisters: Elisabeth, Anna, and Willemina. Vincent was a serious and thoughtful child. He attended the village school at Zundert

Van Gogh produced many self-portraits, he drew or painted more than 43 between 1886 and 1889. They vary in intensity and colour, and some portray the artist with beard, some without, and others with bandages, in the period after he had severed a portion of his ear. Self-portrait without beard, from late September 1889, was one of the most expensive paintings ever sold, it was sold for $71.5 million dollars in New York. 26. To begin with, Vincent van Gogh was a famous Dutch painter. He was born on 30th March 1853 in Zundert, which is in Netherlands and died on 29th July in Auvers-sur-Oise, France.

Since he was a child he was into the drawing and painting. When he became older, he turned to Religion, like a preacher in southern Belgium. Later he was keenly aware of modernist trends in art, music and literature. Theo, who was his younger brother, supported him financially. In 1886 he moved to Paris, where he discovered the French Impressionism movement.
He worked in too many artworks during his life; the majority created in his last two years, which had influence on 20th century art. He belonged to the Post Impressionist movement.
About his ear, it is thought that he had a violent encounter with Gauguin, who he had some arguments with due to their different personalities. Van Gogh threatened him with a razor, and finally in a rage, he cut off most of his own right ear.
He committed suicide when he was 37 because he had a mental illness.

All in all, although it is curious that he sold only one painting during his life, I think he is a great painter and one of the most famous in the world besides his works like Starry Night, Sunflowers, Bedroom in Arles, Sorrow and Portrait of Dr Gachet....

The colour, emphatic brushing, and forms of his work powerfully influenced the current modern art. Van Gogh’s art became incredibly popular after his death, especially in the late 20th century, when his works were sold for records amounts of money at auctions around the world and was featured in very important touring exhibitions. Maybe because of his extensive published letters, van Gogh has also been considered in people´s imagination as a crazy painter

Van Gogh moved to London and worked there, from 1873 to May 1875, and in Paris from that date until April 1876. It´s said that the daily contact with paints grew his artistic sensibility, and he soon was interested in Rembrandt, and other Dutch painters, although he prefered for two contemporary French painters, Millet and Corot, who highly influenced him. He worked as a language teacher and preacher in England and, in 1877, worked for a seller in the Netherlands. In the winter of 1879, when he moved to Belgium, he experienced the first great spiritual crisis of his life.

One painting can cost more than ten houses together. Another reason why they are so expensive is because they are very old.

Famous paintings like The Gioconda or Starry Night can't be bought. They are displayed in museums like The Louvre Museum ore The Whitney Museum. You can go and visit them, but you can't buy them for any price. I like painting when I'm bored and I don´t know what to do, but I know that I'm not going to paint as well as a painter.

Personally I think that painting is an awesome thing, but I'll never buy a painting. They're so expensive!

  40. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. Moreover, although it sounds strange, Van Gogh only sold one of the hundreds of his paintings that currently reach incredible prices at auctions. The recognition of his work only began one year after his death, as a result of an exhibition. Nowadays, Van Gogh is considered one of the great geniuses of painting. Furthermore, his works had a decisive influence on all the art of the 20th century.

On the one hand, talking about his life, Vincent van Gogh, who was the eldest of six children, received a good education at a private boarding school and at the age of sixteen he entered as an apprentice in an art trading society founded by his uncle. Later, he worked as a teacher, assistant to a Methodist pastor and worker in a bookshop, among other things. However, he felt very lonely, so his friend Paul Gauguin moved into the "yellow house" to be with him, but the relationship became more and more difficult because of their strong character. In the course of an argument, Van Gogh even attacked Gauguin with a shaving blade; then, feeling sorry for his actions, he cut off his earlobe to give it to Gauguin, who considered him as a dangerous lunatic with whom he had no intention of living. After that, van Gogh spent a year in a psychiatric hospital. Finally, this artist killed himself with a gunshot.

On the other hand, talking about his works, there is no doubt that Van Gogh was a fantastic painter. His artistic period was short (about 10 years), but intense. Moreover, in that period of time the artist painted more than 800 pictures and we don't know how many more he could have painted or how his art would have advanced if he hadn't ended his career and his life. Besides, we can see how the different periods of his life are reflected in his paintings, so we can observe a dark period, a brighter period, an inspiring period... Some of the paintings of this important artist are Los comedores de patatas, La siesta and la Noche estrellada.

In short, Vincent van Gogh was a very important artist who created a before and after in the history of art. Unfortunately, he had a complicated life and died very young.

  41. Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in Zundert, the Netherlands and died on July 29, 1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. He committed suicide because of his mental illness, his poverty and his anxiety.

Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose work influenced 20th century art. He painted some 900 paintings, including 43 self-portraits and 148 watercolors, and made more than 1,600 drawings. Van Gogh was born to upper-middle-class religious parents. He also traveled extensively and spent several years in his 20s working for a firm of art dealers in The Hague, London and Paris, after which he taught in England at Isleworth and Ramsgate.

Some of his most famous works are Starry Night, Sunflowers, Bedroom in Arles, Portrait of Dr. Gachet, and Sorrow. However, his works of art were not valued until his death, so he was very poor. Today, his portraits are the most expensive in the world. For example, Self-Portrait Without a Beard was sold in New York for 71.5 million dollars. Due to the paintings or works that he has made during his life, Van Gogh is one of the most important painters in the world and also in Amsterdam the Van Gogh museum was created and located.

In my opinion, Van Gogh is one of the most important painters in the world, that is why we are currently studying him in the literature subject at high school. Although I never knew anything about his life before, because I have to study him I know many things about him, and the truth is that he had a short and curious life.

  42. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch artist. His work style was an artistic trend which followed on from the nineteenth century Impressionist movement. Nowadays Van Gogh is considered to be one of the 19th century's greatest artists.

During his lifetime he sold only one single painting, The Red Vineyard. Van Gogh produced all his work in just ten years before suffering from mental illness and committing suicide. His fame rose quickly after his death because of his paintings; many of them where self-portraits and others where different, like a bedroom, a vase with sunflowers, a beautiful night scenery or a little baby.

My favorite one is called Starry Night. In this painting, you can see a night scenery, where the sky is full of stars and below it a village with some houses and a high church between some hills. When I was younger, I didn’t know too much about him, but now that I’m grown enough, I think that he’s a great painter and he has a very nice history and he also had a very interesting life, but in my opinion a bit sad.

In my opinion I think that Van Gogh is a great artist because I think that their paintings are very nice and they also have a very interesting history behind them. Despite his life was sad, everyone knows him as a very good painter and as a very famous person.
