BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Lack of commitment in our society and bipolar disorder

What does 'commitment' mean? Now that we come to the end of the school year, rate your teachers, your parents, your friends...and obviously yourselves regarding the degree of commitment you show in your everyday life.

Some people, especially politicians, are very keen on saying:

"Do as I say, not as I do" (6 Minute English, BBC Learning English)

This lack of commitment is the doom of our society, especially serious among our younger generations.

Have a look around and you will see that those people who succeed in life have a high degree of commitment to what they do, such is the case of Muhammed Ali, Rafa Nadal, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela...

We have also seen this bipolar disorder in the book we had to read in 4º ESO for the third term Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. Remember that R. L. Stevenson wrote this novel probably thinking about  the case of Deacon Brodie. Where did he live? What other famous novel was written by R.L. Stevenson?

Article to read:

The Real Jekyll & Hyde? The Deacon Brodie story (BBC)

And here's a cartoon film to watch about the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde  >>

Here's the link to the audiobook

Here's the project done by Alex España (4º ESO B)  >>>>

  2. For a start, commitment means both dedication and promise. Lack of commitment happens when someone says one thing and does another.

On the one hand, politicians get used to do this because they often promise that they will do what people want and finally they don’t, so people discover what they are really like and they protest. Nowadays, being a politician should be a difficult job as they are under scrutiny every moment. About teens, I don’t think that there is a great lack of commitment because each one is different from the others and it depends on everyone’s lifestyle.
On the other hand, I have read the book Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, where I saw the bipolar disorder that Dr Jekyll suffered. It is curious seeing how a person has different behaviours. The story tells probably about Deacon Brudie, who lived in Edinburgh. Its author, Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island, A Child’s Garden of Verses, Kidnapped, too.

All in all, I think that if you say one thing, you have to do it, like that, you’ll have a great success in your life.

  3. Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that includes serious episodes of mania and depression. The disease causes mood swings, from being very happy to feeling extremely depressed and hopeless. Bipolar disorder is a very serious and hard problem.
The causes of this disorder are not entirely clear. They can be genetic, that is, they are inherited by the family. Another cause may be an abnormal structure of brain functions..
Bipolar disorder usually begins in the late teens or early adulthood but children and adults may also suffer from it. Illness, generally, lasts a lifetime.
From my point of view this disease is very hard both for the person who suffers it and for the people around it, it is very difficult to live with changing moods, you can be very happy and ten minutes very sad, in addition to the disorder bipolar brings with it depression, terrible manias, self-injurious behaviors, talk only ..

  4. Bipolarity or also called bipolar disorder is a mental illness that causes extreme changes in mood. Periods of feeling sad or depressed can alternate with periods of feeling very happy and active. People who suffer from it experience unusual changes in mood, energy perception and behavior. A person knows if he is bipolar if he suffers from depressive phases such as tiredness, apathy, lack of sleep.
The causes of this disorder are not very clear. They may be genetic or they may also be an abnormal structure of brain functions.
Bipolar disorder affects men and women equally, this disease in general can last for a lifetime.

I believe that living with a person suffering from this disease is difficult to live with, although the person suffering from this disease is also difficult to live with mood swings

  6. Among the many diseases and mental disorders we find bipolar disorder which is a disease characterized by a change in mood or how you react to things from one moment to the next that is, from one state of mind to another in a short time. Is a hard problem because it isn´t your intention and from one moment to another your mind can make you change your mood without wanting to.

There are many people who suffer from it but the exact cause of the appearance of this mental disorder is not known, this could come in genetics and manifest as it grows but could also be due to an abnormality in the brain. The problem of these people is not only changing your feelings or your reactions from one moment to another, it´s also the intensity in which they feel things, so they end up emotionally tired. To detect a bipolar disorder it is necessary to go to therapy since it is not something that can be diagnosed because one day you have mood swings, probably caused by hormones, it doesn´t mean that you suffer from this disorder.

To make it easier for these people to take it, it´s recommended that they go to therapy to try to learn to manage their emotions, although it´s difficult since this is a mental illness but it can help a little in terms of how to react or how to know how to handle them. There is also medication with which to control it since it is a disease that stays with you all your life, manic episodes can affect activities that are done daily such as work and in more extreme cases can cause them to disconnect from reality and require hospitalization.

In conclusion, these people live or feel differently from us but they have to learn to carry it and I think that if it´s in your hands to make them feel better or help them, you should do it since in manic episodes you could be of help since they can get into a depression from one moment to another. I think that these types of diseases as well as mental health are very little visible, in my opinion they should tell us more about it and inform us in case we have to help someone who suffers from a disorder.

  7. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive disorder, is a mental illness that affects the mechanisms that regulate the state of mind. Changes in mood can go from one extreme to another.

On the one hand, the person may feel very happy, optimistic, and also very active, this is known as manic episodes,on the other hand there are depressive episodes, in which the person may feel sad, indifferent or desperate, in addition to showing a very low level of activity.

Although bipolar disorder is a chronic illness, changes in mood and other symptoms can be managed by following a treatment plan. In most cases, bipolar disorder is treated with medication and psychological support.

To sum up, i think that this ilness should not considered how a stupid thinks, because is a big problem for the person that surffer this illness and for the person that live near of them
