BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Why do people (especially students) tend to procrastinate everything they have to do? What does this word mean? Here's a good listening exercise to do: Get on with it!  (6 Minute English, BBC Learning English)

Important piece of news for my students in 1º Bachillerato next year   >>>   Have a look in my site at Notes on grammatical issues (1º Bach) and you'll find the exercises will be doing next year, apart from most useful notes on the uses of TENSES & MODAL VERBS:

Remember that in NOTES ON GRAMMATICAL ISSUES (2º Bach) you can have a look at the following issues (I give you the links to some useful exercises to do all along the school year):

a. Comparatives and superlatives    (EXERCISES TO DO)

b. Passive voice    (EXERCISES TO DO)

c. Conditional sentences    (EXERCISES TO DO)

d. Relative Clauses    (EXERCISES TO DO)

e. Reported Speech    (EXERCISES TO DO)

Have a look at the picture on the right and give me a synonym for 'supposed to'. Remember to revise the modal verbs. Can you rewrite the sentence using the modal verb.

  2. Why do we do this? Simple, because we think we have enough time to spend on silly things that really are not important and we can leave the important things for the last moment.

All this happens because we are too lazy, we choose to spend hours in front of a mobile phone to catch up on work or study harder for an exam, but this also is because we find it hard to put all our attention on something and maybe it's because we have no strength to do things we really should do them.

In my case I prefer to do things during the summer,I have more free time to do things and make them lighter, and for me it´s more difficult during the school year, because we spend six hours in school and there are enough subjects, and I know I should do the opposite and focus more during the school year.

But for other people, directly not do things Why? Because they are not interested, it's not put it off is not going to get the time to do it.

  3. Regarding what means Don't leave it for tomorrow, it means doing things at the moment and not later.

On the one hand, I think that students tend to procrastinate everything or almost everything that they have to do because they have other things to spend time on them. Teens usually say that they have to meet friends, go out, go to parties, and now in summer, they rather go to the beach than stay at home doing something. Most of them say that among other smells, the smell of sunbathe reminds them of their childhood.

On the other hand, it is true that if you start now you will be ready for the next school year or whatever. I rather do some homework during the summer than have to do all of them during the school year, when I have to do a lots things more.

All in all, if you can do things at the moment, do them, because later you might not be able to do them because of different things.

  4. Well, I have searched on internet the expression "Don't leave it for tomorrow" and it means that it's better do things at the moment and not later. Procrastinate means doing things later and not at the moment.

Now I'm going to talk about some things students usually do. I reckon that we are on holidays, but I also think in summer we must do things. Students tend to procrastinate almost everything that they can do later. It isn't a good idea because perhaps later they must do many more things than in this moment. There is another reason that is very common, students are young people and many times they say that their obligations are: goi out with their frinds, go to the beach, go to parties or simply rest.

In my opinion it's better do things in the moment if you can. I prefer doing things in the summer because I have more free time and becuse of I haven't got much time during the school year. In conclusion: Don't procrastinate and work more!! :)

  6. Today, procrastinating things we have to do is a very common phenomenon. Not only teenagers, but also children and adult people leave things that they can do at the moment to do them afterwards. First of all I am going to write about why this happens, then, I'll move on to explain our waste of time on holidays. And finally, I'm going to give you my opinion about what we must do.

We always think that if we can do things later, it is foolish to do them at that very moment , so we leave things for the last moment. Not only this happens with activities, but also with exams. For instance, I usually study the day before the exam or even, the night before. That's because we have other extra activities, for example, the school of languages or the music school, so we have less time to spend on school chores. However, I'd like to say that if we organize our time, we can spend time on other things.

On the contrary, when we are on holidays, we have a lot of time, although we don't spend it very well. During the summer holidays, we usually go to the beach, spend a lot of time with friends or even, we go to other towns' parties. I reckon that in the summer time it is too warm to do any kind of intellectual activity, we are tired even if we don't do anything. On the one hand, I understand that on holidays we have to relax since we have spent all the year studying and getting up early . On the other hand, I also reckon that we should do something on holidays not to forget the knowledge we have obtained during all the school year.

All in all, I believe it is so important to advance work when we have enough time as during the academic year we must study hard to get good marks and that is a bit difficult if we spend time on other things as reading books or making comments because of our waste of time on holidays. So, get ready for the next school year!

  7. Nowadays what happens to some students, and also to some adults, that we leave what we can do in a moment of the day we leave it for another day
We always think that if we can do things later, it is foolish to do them at that precise moment, so we leave them for the last moment.
Sometimes we leave our homework for the last day and we can do it the same day we send it, this also happens with the exams, which at first we do not give importance but a day before we start studying.
We also leave things for the last day, because sometimes we also have other activities, such as practicing some language, music lessons.
In my opinion, we should not leave everything for the last moment, because we can be stuffed, and during vacations the free time that we are not doing anything, we can move forward so as not to leave everything for the last day, like making comments, reading a book .

  8. Procrastinating is leaving things for other moment. Nowadays people tend to procrastinate many things, like that mail that you have to send or the pile of paper you haven't thrown away. We procrastinate things that we don't like to do. And teenagers are not the only ones that procrastinate things, so do adults.

The main reason of procrastinating is that we think that if we can do a task later, it's better to do it later. We usually postpone the task because we don't like it and we finish doing it because we can't postpone it any more. For example, many of us do the homework the last day and study the day before the exam. But we often don't have time enough to do them because many of us study at the languages school or have classes in the afternoon. Even the movile phone can make us procrastinate because we prefer playing videogames or whatching series to study.

Sometimes we procrastinate a task because we don't have time enough to do it, but do we do it when we have a lot of free time? When we are on holidays, we have plenty of time to do what we want. We have two months to do a little homework and have less homework when the school year starts. But most of us don't do nothing because we prefer going out with friends. In this case we would have to do that little homework when we could or are bored.

I think that procrastination is bad because it makes us less productive so we have to fight it. We have to do our homework as soon as possible so we can be less stressed. It is good to have a good time in holidays, but we have to be responsible and do some homework in holidays. It's better to do things as soon as possible because later we won't have time to do it due to private classes or sports.

  9. Almost everyone has left something for the last minute. They are usually teenagers but also many young children or even adults. This is a bug we need to fix.

First of all, we are going to talk about the reasons why we leave everything to the last minute. Many people, especially teenagers, leave exams, homework... until the last minute, but this is not good, because later we get overwhelmed. We tend to leave things to the last minute because we have other things to do like going to private classes, or sometimes because we are tired.

During the course we are very overwhelmed because we have little time, but when the holidays arrive and we have a lot of free time we do not take advantage of it. During the summer we can bring things forward to have less things to do during the year. In summer it can be done little by little.

In summary, I think we should organize ourselves and not leave things to the last minute. You have to do things with time and little by little. If we leave everything to the last minute, we will get overwhelmed and do nothing or do it wrong.
