BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Here's a listening exercise to do: Transport of the future (6 Minute English, BBC Learning English)

Lucy tells us about 7 Ways to Improve English Writing Skills >>>>

Activities for my 2º ESO students:  What means of transport do you use? Which would you like to use in the future?  Pay attention to the prepositions used. Example: Albert  >>>  I used to cycle to school when I was a student. Now I go to school by car. How would you say in English: "Mis abuelos solían ir al campo a caballo"?

Some extra exercises for my students in 2º Bachillerato  >>>

UNIT  4     Work

page 53  Vocabulary. Rewrite these sentences substituting the underlined words by words with suitable prefixes.

1 The paint is coming off the door. I’ll have to paint it again.
2 I was annoyed because he spelled my name wrongly.
3 Don’t cook the meat too much, or it won’t be nice.
4 We calculated wrongly how long the job would take.
5 Juan reacted too strongly when I told him the news.

page 56  Writing a formal letter. I advise you to have a look at this previous post to remind you certain things to do when writing a formal letter: Formal letter writing

Look at the letter again and find expressions 1–5, then match them with their meanings A–E.

1 in response to                                                               A I would be good at
2 I enclose                                                                      B (I) can
3 I would be suitable for                                                  C because of
4 I would enjoy the opportunity to                                   D I am sending you
5 (I) am available to                                                        E I would like to

Read this letter and elicit all  the things that are too informal. Then, rewrite it using more formal language, using the letter in exercise 1 as a model.

Hi there,
I’m writing because I saw the advert for a waiter which was in the evening newspaper on 21 October. I’m sending you a copy of my CV and I’d like you to think about giving me the job. I think I would be good at the job because I am polite and hard-working. Look at my CV and you will see that I worked in a shop last summer, so I’ve already tried serving customers and dealing with money. I’d love to work in your restaurant and I can start immediately.
I don’t mind attending an interview and I hope to hear from you soon.
See you soon,
Katie Wilson

  4. In my opinion we shouldn´t be discussing about how the future of travelling will be, because we will never be able to go from Salobreña, for example, to Madrid in a 1000 Km/h train, or go from Australia to Los Angeles in 20 minutes, what many space agencies are trying to do.

I really respect what Elon Musk is saying, firstly for what He and His company, Space X achieve a couple of weeks ago, but as I said It´s impossible to connect a small village or city like Salobreña to Madrid by a 1000 Km/h train, even less if you say that it will be cheaper than travell by car, in my opinion it isn´t as easy and as cheap as he is saying

Finally, I think we should be discussing how globalize what we have now, over being amazed of what Elon Musk says , I mean, we should be installing public transport all over the world, rather than developing the ways of transport of the richest people

  6. I usually use the car, and the bus to go to school. In my future, I want to use the plane, but I have vertigo to the heights, I also want to use the boat and the plane. My grandparents went in donkey, because they didn't invented the cars

  7. In the actually we have a lot of ways of travelling at very high speed for example you can travelling in plane from Malaga to Berlin in three hours or you can travelling in boat that is more slow but is a experience wonderful, but i think that in a future the cientifics will invented one way to travelling more fast.

As a good fan of the films of sci-fi i want travelling teleporting me how in the film ´¨Jumpers¨¨ must be fantastic can travelling aroud the world in one second, you can trevalling from Dublin to EE.UU in a second, and you can sleep in you home and during the day visit different sites

But thinking really I think it will be impossible because virtual voyages or the teleporting are imposible to do, but the Self-driving cars are posible only need if all the transporting is in this way because if one conducter makes an unexpected change the IA of these systems could not respond in time.

In conclusion i think that travelling more fast is imposible but never it is known that you can invent but now we will have to settle for traveling on airplanes.

  9. Nowadays, we usually travel in plane when we go to other countries. The car, train or bus are other means of transport widely used for travel. But in a near future we could to travel in other conveyance.

Smartcars, airplanes powered by solar energy, trucks without a driver, trains that will exceed 600 kilometers per hour ... the technology will achieve that, unless we arrive at our destination, no displacement resembles those we make today.

the arrival of the 'intelligence' to any object and the need to opt for 'green' energies and take care of our surroundings give us the necessary clues to be aware of the trends that will be established in the transport world in the coming years.

Finally, I think that this could be a big step because we could go to any city or country and we would arrive earlier. I hope that the new transport appear in a not distant future.

  10. Nowadays cars, motorbikes, buses are the vehicles which most people usually use to commute, but there are other means of transport, such as skates, bikes or scooters. These ones are most frequently used by teenagers under the age of eighteen, due to the fact that they don't have driving licence. However, if you want to arrive at a far place in a short time you should take a plane, which is much faster, but here's the problem: The faster it goes, the more expensive it is. Moreover, if you live in a big city, it would be a great option to take the underground, since it isn't too expensive and there is one each ten minuts.

I'm sure that in about fifty years we will see new means of transport and lots of changes in the ones we already know, but we still don't know too much about these changes. In the future cars will be able to fly, they will probably have battery powered and will likely be radically different on the inside. Furthemore, there will be a voice assistant which will control the car instead of a steering wheel. But, as a said before, there will be other means of transport such as hyperloops, which are said to be faster than trains, safer than cars and less damaging to the environment than aircraft.

To conclude, I'd like to add that I would rather take a plane than go by car, as I love watching the clouds from the plane's window. However, my dream is travelling abroad by boat, but it isn't cheap enough for me to pay it. I'd also want to say that it would be so amazing if in the future someone created something similiar to hoverboards that would be able to fly.

  12. I think that the people in the future must have a license. Why? Because a autonomic car can be dangerous. Supposing the car have got a error, can provocateur a lot of accidents. Always the people must have a license. They need drive very well. When you learn to drive also you learn values and responsibilities at the road.

  15. In the latest years, we’ve seen how air travel has become commonplace for many people. And what’s more, there’s been the development of high-speed train travel. New transport systems are provided to be developed by 2024, for instance, the well-known Hyperloop, which will carry people between cities at nearly the speed of sound. How do you imagine the future of travelling?

First of all, transports have been developed in the latest years, but what about holidays and accommodation? Underwater experiences, which has already shown in The Simpsons, have been one of the ideas people have talked about. It sounds so astonishing living under the sea and when you wake up see the marine landscape. What’s more, no sound could be heard and you will be able to get calm.

Another kind of accommodation is local travel. According to a recent survey, within the next decade 5-10 per cent of people will be renting out their homes to travellers. Instead of paying so a high price in hotels, you could negotiate with the house owner.

All in all, more and more types of travel will be developed by 2024 and so will be accommodation. In my view, Hyperloop, which will be faster than trains, safer than cars and less damaging to the environment, it is unlikely to be built. It seems to me that governments won’t be easily convinced to allow long metal tubes to be built. Nonetheless, we’d better try these new technologies so as to progress.

  19. Nowadays we can visit a lot of places all around the world. Travelling is very interesting and funny because you can learn a lot of different things like cultures, languages. Languages are one of the things that are really important.

If you go to a interview of a job, they will choose the person that more languages know. Also, you can’t finish your university career if you don’t know languages.

If you ask people if they prefer to go to EEUU, Australia or to Nigeria. Nearly all the people will choose EEUU or Australia because we have more information.

In my opinion, I think that travelling and learning languages is very important. Travelling you can learn a lot of different things that you wouldn’t learn if you don’t travel.however we need to travel to new places to learn new things.

  21. Nowadays the transports have evolved a lot compared to before both the air and land.
For example, the plane or the train.

In the future, the planes will go three times faster and much safer than they are today.
The trains will go in huge tubes with the great security of not derailing and without having to drive someone, they will be able to carry three times more people and loads even if they are very heavy.
Cars will not need us to drive them, it will go without having to take it with you.
The scooters will not carry wheels and will go on a platform that can fly.

  26. Nowadays there are lots of differents ways to travel and many means of transport. For example, there are cars, motorbikes, buses, planes…But will transport continue to evolve?

Hundred years ago, people did not think that in the future, animals like horses would be changed for a car, or that we could travel to another country without many hours, just taking a plane. And now, we also have cars that don´t need gasoline, all that we need to travel by some cars it's the electricity of our house.

Flying cars already exist, that is, they have been invented but we still don't see it as another vehicle on the street. There many others transport that wa have not still seen, but it is already invented, the Hyperloop. It is a type of train which travel through a vacuum tube and with it we can travel from one city to another very quickly.

In my opinion, transport will continue to develop until we can see incredible things that we have not seen yet.

    ResponderEliminar
  27. The hyperloop is a new method of transport that can reach very high speeds of between 1,000 km/h and 1,080 km/h. It is three times faster than a high-speed train and 10 times faster than a traditional train.

This train was invented by Elon Musk. And the first prototype of this train will be found in Germany. The energy that makes it move would not come from fossil fuels, it would come from batteries that could be rechargeable using solar panels.

The train does not have any type of friction, so it can reach higher speeds, that there is no friction is achieved by magnetic levitation inside a vacuum tube

  28. It´s impossible to know how we will travel in the future, but I think that vehicles won’t change so much. People maybe think that cars will fly, or maybe we will travel by virtual voyages, or inclusive we will have our own helicopter… But, being realistic I think that this won’t be possible.
Firstly, because we are using too many no renewables materials, and I think that these types of vehicles need a lot of them. In fact, is probably that vehicles will change to improve our Earth's situation, creating new vehicles with renewable energy, do you think so?

In conclusion, I think that vehicles will have the same aspect although a bit more modern, and maybe we won’t perceive so much change.

The flying cars in the future will be very famous and many people will have one flying car because this won't be very expensive. I think they will be much more efficient than the current means of transport.

There will also be airplanes that will be much faster than the currents means of transport and will make our lives easier. I think in ten years all types of transport will be very fast and speeds of between 2,000 km/h and 2,000 km/h. Also trains, cars, bikes, scooters, etc, they will all be electric and they will be better and will help in the enviroment.
All this will help us in our lives and improve the planet little by little. they will help much our planet much and we will do everything possible to achieve many more things like this to improve our planet and its environment.

In conclusion, I think that vehicles will be much better in the future that in the present.
