Screen overuse, possible cause of digital eye strain

You have probably heard of 'sore throat' when it is cold and you have been shouting, or 'sore feet' when you have been walking in the mountains.... but have you ever heard of 'sore eyes' or 'eye strain'? Well, that is what happens when you have been exposed to computer, tablet... screens for a long time. So, be careful! Watch the video for some advice.



Students often complain that they are stressed because of all the homework, projects, studying... they have to do. Well, our eyes may also get stressed if we force them to work too much.

  1. Today, people spend most of their time with the computer or the mobile phone and it can damage your eyes. Looking at screens for a long time can strain your eyes and damage them. When you are looking at screens you blink less than normal and the tears on the surface of the eye have longer to evaporate, so your eyes get dry and it affects to your view. To avoid it, you should get a rest when you have been looking to a screen for a long time.

People spend a lot of time looking at a screen like the computer, the mobile phone ... and that's bad for their eyes because when we look at a screen we blink very little and that can be bad for them. Some people have had to wear glasses because they are looking at a screen all day until there are people who have lost their sight.
    I used to go to the doctor when I was little before going to sleep because I was a sleepwalker and the doctor told me it was because I used my cell phone before going to sleep and I cannot spend many hours in front of a screen.

  5. Nowadays, almost all people have phones, video games, computers ...
    Adolescents and children, we spend almost all day in front of a screen, this can cause eye pain, loss of sight, weeping eyes, headache ...
    To avoid this, we can decrease the time in front of a screen, and go out and play, meet our friends ...
    Playing on the computer, chatting ... is a way to spend our free time, but not for a long time.
    We must be careful with our health, and not spend a long time in front of a computer device

  6. We live in a world with screens everywhere. All the people have at least one screen in their houses, and they spend a lot of time watching at it. It can be a good way to spend the time or relax from school or work, but sometimes, it can be bad for your health. When you spend a lot of time watching at a screen, your eyes blink less than normal, and with this we can get ocular dryness. This illness affects especially young people, because they´re the ones that spend more time looking at a screen, so they will be more informed of what can happen to them. It´s good to spend time with ITC devices, but you don´t have to forget what can happen to you, and you must be careful with your health and you shouldn´t spend too much time looking at a screen.

  8. Nowadays, technology is a important thing in our live, so this mean that we are for long time in front of screens.
    This is not good for us, because this can produce bad results in our health. For example, in eyes, because they work harder for focus in screen. This can provocate different symptoms like double vision or dry eyes. But not only affects eyes, but also we can have neck pain, or headache.
    I think that we should not spend long time in front of a screen beacuse is bad for us and we can do better things instead of this, but there are jobs that is necessary work with computers, so they should take precautions to not suffer these symptoms.

  9. At the present time, technology is everywhere and our way of living is completely different from how it was a few years ago. Before, when computers didn't exist, people wrote everything by hand and searched for information in encyclopedias. Nowadays, we have to do everything online, and as a result we spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen.but, working only with computers, tablets or mobile phones has disadvantages too?

    On the one hand, electronics make life easier for us, because you can find anything in seconds.In addition, writing on a computer is more comfortable than handwriting.The way to communicate is also much better and easier thanks to the internet, because in the past if you wanted to say something to someone who lives far away, you had to write a letter and wait many days to receive a response, moreover today you can talk to someone in real time without leaving home.

    On the other hand, it is very bad for health to spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen because you may have vision problems like eye strain or sore eyes. Besides, you may have back, neck or headache problems if you spend hours and hours without separating from a computer.In addition, according to professionals more and more people need glasses because of screens and use them too much and incorrectly.

    Taking all this into account, not only are computers useful for looking for information, but they also are an excellent way of communication. In my opinion, computers are indispensable in the present but we must use them in a responsible way because they can cause health problems.

  11. Every day lots of people use technologies like mobiles phones or computers because almost all of us have them , but computers can damage our eyes , because they have blue light that can affect it .
    Moreover when you spend a lot of time watching a screen , your eyes blink less than normal and looking at a computer for a long time can also give you health problems .
    On the other hand , computers are used usually for work or having a good time and I think that sometimes it´s difficult to have a break .

  12. Every time more and more people spend a long time in front of a screen. This is bad. Computers are damaging your ayes. You can´t avoid this, but there are ways to combat the damage.

    The main problem is the hours and hours that we spend in front of a screen without taking a break. People usually blink around 18 times per minute, which refreshes the eyes naturally. But when we are in front of a screen we blink less and this can make your eyes burn, dry out, turn red or feel itchy. So, experts say that this make your eyes work harder than normal.

    In my opinion we should control the time we spend in front of a screen and try to use less the computers and more time with your family and friends or doing other activities like reading or outdoor sports.

  14. In this time the people spend the most of time in front of the screen of the mobile phone, television, etc.
    And this is bad for our eyes, some people use glasses because they are looking the screen every day and they can lose their sight little by little.
    In my opinion we must make a schedule to use the tecnologies and don´t pass the time recomended to stay in front of a screen and be careful if you think that you have a problem with this ask for help, for example, in your eyes or if you are an adicted of new tecnologies

    1. When I have my eyes tired of using digital screens, I usually get compresses of cold water for a few minutes.
      I also usually stop my homework on the screen about five minutes an hour.
      In my computer I put the night vision so that the blue color does not cause any eye problems.
      It is true that every day we use more technologies that cause problems in our eyes, so it is important to be careful with excessive use.
      Also, I think it is necessary to go to the eye doctor when an eye problem stays a long time.

  16. Nowadays it's normal heard the expresion eye strain and sore eyes because people is always using tablets, video consoles, computers, mobile phones... basically things that have a screen to entertain themself.
    I'm one of then because I play videogames a lot in my cumputer or I watch videos in youtube in my mobile phone when i am not studying or with my family. Also this things can cause headache.
    To prevent this we can reduce the time in front of the screen and go outside and meet with our friends.

  17. Nowadays, technologies have come a long way and nothing is like before. Before, you searched all the information in dictionaries or encyclopedys without having to use the Internet and today we do everything from the Internet, from searching for information to buying. This is bad because being in front of a screen all day can damage your eyes.

    On the one hand, technologies make our lives easier because if you want to contact someone who lives far away from you, it's faster with a technological device because just pressing a button sends the message, while if you write a letter takes much longer to arrive and is also more comfortable.

    On the other hand, spending many hours in front of a screen is very bad because it can damage your eyes. In addition, spending a lot of time in front of a screen can also cause headaches and discomfort. according to studies, most people who are in front of a screen all day end up wearing glasses.

    From my point of view it is better to spend less time in front of a mobile phone or computer before they have to put on glasses or you can go blind.

  19. I and a lot of people in the world pass many time in front of a screen with a artificial light.
    I spend 5 or 6 hours with my mobile phone watching videos, writing message and playing video games.
    I fight with my mother when she see me with my mobile, she said I had to stady.
    In conclussion mobile is food but only two hours.

  20. Nowadays, according to studies, between 50 and 90% of people who work in front of a computer screen have some symptoms of eye problems. Therefore, you can damage your eyes by looking at a computer screen for too long time. So, you need eye drops to solve these problems.

    Wachler says that people often blink around 18 times per minute, which refreshes the eyes naturally. But when looking at the screen of a computer or other digital device the flicker speed is reduced. So, generally the main problem is to be hours and hours of close focus without taking a break, but there are ways to combat the damage.
    Another problem is sitting too close to your computer monitor or holding a digital device closer to your eyes than you would normally hold a book or newspaper. Therefore, your eyes will work harder than normal while you strive to concentrate on small print sizes.

    This problem has been called the computer vision syndrome (CVS) which can cause eye pain, dry eyes, watery eyes, blurred vision, double vision, sensitivity to light, difficulty concentrating on images, neck pain, headache or a combination of all of the above.
    However, there are quick and easy steps you can take to reduce these vision problems.
    Like, lower your monitor, so the top of the screen should be level with the user's eyes, allowing a slightly lower viewing angle. Then you can reduce the brightness by tilting the monitor so you do not see reflections from the lights on the front surface of the monitor. In addition, the best viewing distance is between 20 and 40 inches from the eye to the front surface of the computer screen. Besides, correct breathing can relax the muscles of the eyes. And finally the most important thing is to take breaks frequently. By performing all of these tips you will reduce eyestrain and also improve your overall health.

    I think that technologies bring many good things but also produce problems that had not existed before.
