Pau Gasol says Spanish teens are not fit enough

In this blog we have seen different problems
affecting teenagers, such as screen abuse, mobile phones, couch potatoes... All of them have something in common: PHYSICAL INACTIVITY, that is to say, A SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE, whose main consequence is OBESITY and some other health problems such as insomnia, eyesight problems...

  1. Obesity is a disease that consists of an excessive amount of fat in your body and nowadays the levels of obese , especially in children and teenagers, are worrying. Obesity is becoming a more frequent disease not only in Spain but also in the whole world, so why does this happen? What can we do?


    On the one hand, according to statistics, today’s children are 10 times more obese than 40 years ago and this is because we do less and less sport, not because we eat more as many people think; it is obvious that our diet also influences us; nowadays we eat more junk food like chips, hamburgers and pizzas than 40 years ago, but the main reason there are so many obese children and teenagers is that they prefer to stay at home playing video games and using the computer rather than going out to the street to do sports and play, and it shouldn’t be like that. In addition, doctors are very worried because there are more and more diseases caused by overweight in younger and younger children, "I've never seen it before, children 7 years old or younger suffer from diabetes type 2, and this is alarming," said one doctor.


    On the other hand, we all know that our health is really important and to stay healthy and have as few illnesses as possible we have to learn to balance our diet and exercise. What we can do is try to have the most varied diet possible by avoiding eating junk food and not exceeding the amounts of food; a scientist has explained that we don’t have to eat until we feel full, we must eat just enough to not be hungry. In addition, we should look for a sport that we like and do it about 3 times a week; sport not only helps us to be in good shape, but also makes us have good mental health.


    In conclusion, we must have a good diet and do sport to not be obese. I think a good idea to stay in shape is to look for someone who wants to do it with us and that may serve as motivation!

  2. Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn't just a cosmetic concern. It is a medical problem that increases your risk of other diseases and health problems.

    Firstly, factors that may contribute to weight gain among children include genes, eating habits, physical inactivity, TV, computer, phone, and other screen time, sleep habits, medical conditions or medications. Over the past four decades, obesity rates in children and adolescents have soared globally, and continue to do so in many countries. Nowadays, most of the teenagers spend more and more time with their mobile phones, having a sedentary life and eating junk food.

    Secondly, being obese as a child comes with a high likelihood of being obese as an adult and the many health consequences that come with it, including the increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

    In my opinion, I think teenagers should do more exercise, have a healthy and balanced diet, in order to prevent obesity and health problems as an adult.

  3. Every time you go to a supermarket, you see many different types of sweets, soda, chocolate and other kinds of food. Most of them aren´t very healthy, and if you eat a lot of them, you will become fat, or at worst, you will develop a dangerous illness, like obesity or high cholesterol.

    To fight against these common products, many governments have develeped some campaigns to advert people about this, telling them how important is eating fruits and vegetables, and showing them the result of having a diet based on these products full of fats. If you dont want to end being obese, you should eat at least 5 pieces of fruit every day and have a complete diet, which should include vegetables, fish, meat, eggs, etc.

    Another way to avoid this fats is burning them, so practising a sport, going running, going swimming or doing any other sport will help you to keep your body fit and healthy, and this added to a good diet, will make you fell better.

    In summary, beign fat isn´t only an aesthetic fact, it includes your health too, so you should take care of your diet, and do some sport or exercise too, to keep fit and healthy.

    Every time, we see new places of fast food. This type of food causes obesity. In countries like the United States in 2014, there were 14,339 McDonald's restaurants. Some organizations accuse this company to encourage childhood obesity. In Spain, 35% of minors between 8 and 16 have overweight, 20.7% of them have equipoise and 14.2% obesity. The governments are creating some campaigns to fight against this type of food and to teach why the fruits and vegetables are good for us.

    Also, it is caused by low salaries or little time to cook, added that this boys and girls aren’t so athletics.

    All in all, I think that we need to eat more fruits and vegetables and less junk food. As well,we should do sport. Remember, doing sport with a friend is less boring!

  6. Currently almost everyone knows someone who is obese. A person has obesity when he or she eats more calories than the ones that he burns for a long time. Nowadays the number of obese people is more than 10 times higher than 40 years ago. While the number of obese children 40 years ago is 11 million, today is more than 100 million.

    There are some reasons to explain why more and more children are becoming obese. The main reason is the diet. 40 years ago people used to eat many vegetables. They didn't eat pizza or other kinds of junk food. Today, many children eat junk food and they eat less vegetables. Another reason is that most of the teenagers don't do sport, they prefer playing videogames, and they only do exercise in PE classes. Some people also have obesity because of emotional problems they had before, like depression or anxiety.

    Obesity also makes children have more health problems. Today's teens have health problems that adults had before, for example diabetes and cholesterol. Some children who are obese can also become obsessed with losing weight and they can have bulimia and anorexia.

    In my opinion we need to fight obesity. We need to do many sport and have a healthier lifestyle. We need to eat less junk food and have a better diet. If people don't have a healthy lifestyle, they will have obesity and later health problems so they will have a worse quality or life.

  9. Obesity is a disease that involves having an excessive amount of body fat. It is very common today in child and teenagers between the ages of 7 and 15. But what are the causes and effects?

    Obesity is not produced just for the fact of eating a lot of food. Many experts say that teenagers have been getting fatter because they have been exercising less, not because they have been eating more. Moreover, many children spend most of the day lying in the sofa close to the television or mobile phone.

    On the other hand, obesity has very serious effects. It can increase the risk of diseases and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes or certain types of cancer. However, there are some solutions for this issue. For example, the restricted marketing of unhealthy foods for children and policies to increase physical activity at schools.

    All in all, obesity is a big problem that many teenagers suffer and it can have very serious health problems for the human body, so in my opinion the best thing is try to eat a balanced diet and do exercise regularly.

    There are many reasons why some people have difficulty avoiding obesity. Obesity is usually the result of a combination of hereditary factors with the environment, personal diet, and exercise options.
    Obesity is diagnosed when the body mass index or BMI is equal to or greater than 30. To determine your body mass index, divide your weight in pounds by your height in square inches and multiply by 703. Or divide your weight in kilograms by your height in square meters.
    I think that the best thing is that we must have a good diet and do sports to have this disease and not be self-conscious.

  11. Obesity is the accumulation of fat that can be harmful to health. Obesity has increased over time.

    The causes are an increase in foods high in fat and a decrease in physical activity.

    Today we, the children, do less physical activity than in the past. Before, children were always playing on the street and today we spend a lot of time playing video games and we don´t move so much. This is harmful.

    The consequences are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, disorders in the locomotor system and cancers.

    How can you reduce obesity? It can be reduced by not eating so many foods with high carolytic content (junk food), eating more fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals and doing more sports.

    In my opinion obesity is bad because one day you will not that you will not be able to move and you will get sick.

  12. Obesity is a disease that affects many people and consists of having an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity can harm your health and give you many problems.


    Many teenagers now do not leave their homes and do not play sports. They sit all day and eat junk food without doing anything, this makes your physical condition and health worse.

    24.7 percent of young people between the ages of 16 and 30 are overweight or obese. Do not confuse being overweight with obesity, overweight can be caused by muscle mass

    In conclusion, I think that adolescents should try to do more sports and move more, it is something really fun and helps you to have a good physical condition and not to have health problems in the future.

  14. Physical exercise is something very important for our body, because if we do not do any sport, in the future we could have important health problems, such as obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure...
    It is not necessary to make a lot of effort when exercising, you can simply go for a walk every day or run, doing some exercise can also prevent injuries, since your muscles are strong and less likely to be injured.
