BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Have you ever spilt the tea?

Do you like gossiping? Here's a nice expression based on the irregular verb TO SPILL (spilt, spilt; although the regular form 'spilled' is also admitted).

The English We Speak - Spill the tea  (BBC Learning English)

Gossip about staff to boost morale, bosses told (The Times)

English in a Minute:  'Whisper' vs 'Murmur' vs 'Mumble'   (BBC Learning English)

At the end of every school year I like taking stock of the situation and especially after such a unique experience during this pandemic, so I would like you to do the same in your comments. Tell us about your experiences during the quarantine and then give other students some advice about how to cope with it and also some hints to pass the English subject without problems.

From my point of view, there are obviously positive and negative aspects to consider after all this experience.

On the one hand, this experience has made me, as a teacher, develop all the skills I had (and even those I hadn't) at the most. I believe now I am a much better teacher with regard to the use of ITC tools (Moodle, online classes, new way to correct...). Although I'm exhausted at the moment, I am mentally stronger as I had different problems to solve and difficulties to overcome. I also had to develop all the possible techniques of encouragement so that my students could do their best. Unfortunately, the level of success has been very low.

On the other hand, this experience has made me discover the evil side of my students, like in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I could never believe there were so many fake students. As a result, we've had fakeness everywhere: fake students, fake online classes (with ghost students connected, but who would not answer when they were asked), fake exams, fake results, fake homework handed in...

  2. I´m about to finish 1º Bachillerato this year and I must say that I haven´t found it so difficult to get a good final grade in English. Here are some pieces of advice you should take into consideration if you want to pass English with Albert and especially with a good mark.

First of all, I want to make clear that English is a very nice language and it will help you a lot in the future if you want to go to the university or search for a job. To be good at English you have to like it and study it everyday! Besides, the more you study, the better marks you will get!

Secondly, in order to pass English with Albert you must follow his pieces of advice from the begining of the year until the end of the 3rd term. If I were you, I would follow his pieces of advice! He will ask you to do all the exercises from each unit of the textbook, in advance, if possible. The textbook for 1º Bachillerato is ''Get Set 1'' so you can borrow it or buy it this summer and start doing the exercises from each unit. This way you will have more time to prepare for other subjects during the school year. In addition, another thing you should take into consideration is that you should do all the compositions during the school year and make comments on your teacher´s blog, correct them and then upload them on your blog. In both 1st and 2nd term you must make 10 comments and in the 3rd one, 5 quality comments. All this will increase your mark at the end of each term! Moreover, you´ll be doing projects, exams and dictations from the readers, so you´d better make time to read every book that the teacher tells you. Other important pieces of advice I can give you are: always participate in class, do the reader sheets every term and don´t miss classes! If you do all that, it will increase your final term mark.

Finally, learning English with Albert isn´t that difficult! You just need to get used to his teaching system and follow his instructions! Listen to me, do everything that your teacher asks you and you will pass English! Otherwise, you will have to study during the summer and you won´t enjoy your vacation at all!

To sum up, English is not so difficult to pass!!! Remember: be honest, work hard, don´t cheat and don´t be a fake student!!! It is in the Selectivity exam where you will see how honest you have been during Bachillerato!

  4. I have to say that this year was so different and at the same time stressful but , even though all the difficulties we had during the year , I have just finished 1º Bachillerato and I´m so proud of myself. For that reason , I would like to talk about my experience in the English subject and also give you some pieces of advise to try to improve your English .

First at all , it is clear that English is not easy like many of the subjects you have but , if you try to do your best , it will easier for you . Besides , as you know English is a very important subject , especially if you want to get a good job in the future so , if I were you , I would follow all the pieces of advice .

Secondly , if you are wondering if there is a key to pass English , let me tell you that there is . You should follow the pices of advice that Alberto gives from the beginning until the end of the year , and of course , you should make all the comments on his blog . If I were in your shoes, I would start doing them as fast as possible because the sooner you get them out , the better. Obviously , both the comments and the compositions must be always (as Alberto says) , genuine , that is to say, you have to write them on your own .

Summing up , English is not a difficult subject but , remember always be yourself and be honest on what you do . So , work hard and come on , you can do it !!.

  6. This year, I have just finished 1º Bachillerato. In my opinion, this course has not been as difficult as I expected it to be to get a good final grade. Unfortunately due to the coronavirus we couldn't go to high school during this school year has the last term. Therefore, the end of the school year has been more difficult because we did not have classes at the high school.

During quarantine, I would connect to online classes in the morning and in the afternoon I did all my homework. This way, I followed the same routine every day of the week and even at weekends, a routine which was quite boring. From my point of view, the pandemic has hurt most of the students a lot. Due to this, and although during this school year we had online classes in some subjects, it was much more difficult to understand the subject than when we went to high school. For example, it was much more difficult for me to understand subjects such as mathematics.

English has been the most difficult subject for me during this course and in which I have obtained the least grade. I am not proud of my grade in this subject and therefore I am studying hard every day throughout the summer. Despite this, I can give you some pieces of advice which you can take to pass English with Albert and especially if you want to get a good mark.

First of all, to get the lowest grade in English you must study this every day. Secondly, you must follow alberto's advice from the beginning of the year and even before starting it. So, if I were you, I would make at least the first ten comments and read the three books and do their respective projects. In this way, during the year you will not have to spend so much time on this subject. Besides, during the year you should do all the exercises in each unit of the textbook as soon as possible. Moreover, you should do all the compositions during the school year and make all the comments on Albert´s blog. After making a comment you must correct it and then upload it on your blog. Therefore, during the first and second term you must make ten comments and in the third term you must make five quality comments. Finally, you should participate in class and don't miss any class.

To sum up, if you study hard, you can get good grades at the end of the year. Regarding the English subject, if you follow all my advice, you will get a good grade. In addition, it is very important to study English in order to have a good job in the future and be able to travel easily.
