BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Brexit: NO MAN IS AN ISLAND!!

The latest  >>>  Brexit: PM meets Euro leaders (News Report, BBC Learning English)

Breaking news:

Jo Cox: grief and shock over death of 'Labour MP with huge compassion' (The Guardian)

On 23rd June a referendum will be held in the United Kingdom in order to decide if they stay in the European Union or if they leave. For a start, let's just read this poem about John Donne. Analyse it bearing in mind the globalised world we live in.

'No Man is an Island' (by John Donne)

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
                is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom

Do these words remind you of any other prominent writer?

Yes, you're right, the American writer Ernest Hemingway, who wrote the famous novel For whom the bell tolls, which deals about our Spanish Civil War.

The issue in the press:

What is your opinion about the whole issue? Do you think that it is good for Spain to stain in the EU? Write about the advantages and disadvantages of belonging to the EU.

  1. "It's a roller coaster. ... There's no other way to say it," said Nic Robertson, CNN International diplomatic editor.
“If the UK leaves, it is likely that the passport will no longer be available, there by forcing firms that wish to access EU markets to move their operations to within those markets.”
    In my opinion I think the EU will still exist, but people should vote leave because they could recover their democracy and means they are free to trade with the whole world and can strike better deals with China, India and Australia. For Spain it is good to stain in the EU because all are benefits for Spain;
Breakdown of Spain’s finances with the EU in 2014:
Total EU spending in Spain – € 11.539 billion
Total EU spending as % of Spanish gross national income (GNI) – 1.10 %
Total Spanish contribution to the EU budget – € 9.978 billion
Spanish contribution to the EU budget as % of its GNI – 0.95 %.

Advantages of belonging to the EU:
    - Tax free trading among members
    - Opens up more opportunities
    - Culture is not lost
    - A common currency
    - No conflict between nations

Disadvantages of belonging to the EU:
    - Communication barriers
    - Shared wealth is not always good
    - Leaving is a problem
    - Discriminates against potential members
    - Takes power from governments
    - Serves the interest as A whole, not a country

  2. It is a well-known fact that many countries want to get out of European Union and it is also clear that there are many reasons to get out. Some of them are or were United Kingdom and Greece.

First of all, I am going to talk about the reasons. They want to leave the EU, because they say that the European Union controls them too much and they aren’t independent. They also complain that they can’t restrict the influx of immigrants. However, the main issue is the crisis, because they didn’t want to become free when there was welfare and they needed immigrants. They use the immigrants as scapegoat.

In addition, this produces that people vote to nationalist political parties such as France where the NF (the National Front) got the 25% of the votes. Consequently, immigrants lose right and Schengen Area doesn’t work. However, they don’t want to restrict rich immigrants, only the poor of them. Another example is Italy whose wealth is in north and wants to separate from the south.

All in all, I think EU should find a solution and these countries should be aware of the consequences of getting out of the European Union which could be very very hard. I hope that all these problems are resolved soon.

  3. In our day-to-day lives we were wondered a great many questions about the Brexit, about that as known exit of Britain from the Europe Union. Why do they have thought that would be a great success for them? Or what can it benefit them?

According to an article of The World's newspaper, leave the EU would improve the immigration as in the last year, it has increased a lot and as a consequence Britain citizens haven't enough work, less education and health. Another fact is that unless they don't take control of the borders and who enters or goes out, they won't be able to protect their inhabitants, mostly terrorists would be able to attack their population. And finally, they have said they have to give weekly €20,000 millions for the EU maintenance.

On the contrary, by this time there are still amounts of British people who are against this. Indeed, more than 100 scientists signed not in favour of this. Not only will it be bad for the science and research but also they have agreements with the other countries of the EU. It is also quite important to know that that change is going to get it weaker.

Taking all into account, I believe they should raise again all that they have already done. It is also quite important to think about the progress they have had on the research and medicine domain and I'm almost sure they wouldn't have make whether they hadn't belonged to the Europe Union.

  4. It´s usual hearing people bringing up the theme of Brexit when anything is spoken about the United Kingdom or any of it´s territories, the same happens when the theme of conversation goes around the EU, but what is usual to is just hearing a main opinion, which has proved to be the "good and acceptable" one, making the other the "bad and evil" option, but is this true or unfair?. Well, I´m not supossed to give my opinion, but i think it´s not a good/bad option thing.

Is well known that the EU has helped a lot of countries and europe in general to develop and advance in generañ, as well as a safe home to avoid conflicts with outer nations as to give a hand in case of internal crisis. Some clear examples are the elimination of circulation taxes between the members and assistance in cases of debt, bankrupcy and economical crisis; also acting as an unified militar union that has helped to avoid wars and other armed conflicts that could have caused major conflicts envolving them, and these improves others aspects as more private incentive, school learning and studies trips. One of the most well affected by their incorporance to the EU has been Slovenia, Croacia and Ireland, outstanding in progress and avoiding international conflicts that perdured for centuries in some of them.

But not everything in the EU is pink colored, sadly some countries have been unintentionally more perjucadicated than improved from their entrance, or just had a progress that has collapsed or slowed down at some point, without finding any answer from the EU, sometimes spreading their "downhill times" to the rest of european members. Is not any surprise how some of the anchors of european economy are the named "P.I.G.S.", refering to Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain; by the Countryball (or Polandball) communitie, these are mostly nations which have stunning levels of corruption, debt and internal problems that, directly or not, forces EU to slow down to help, which is highly criticised by parties and euro-exceptic partys in countries like Uk, Germany, France, Austria, Poland and more that are joining this group. Also it´s policies called out socialist or neocommunist by the right anti EU partyes, feeds more the dislike from a growing sector who thinks the Union is no longer neccesary and that their respective nation should abandon it before it goes worse.

The Brexit has been practically confirmed after the absolute win of Boris Johnson in UK, who has promised leaving it, after which has been at least the 4th aplacement of what is known as hard brexit, now is question of time to know when, how, why, and what will happen.

  5. United Kingdom has got a Queen (Elisabeth II) and United Kingdom isn’t a Europe Country since two month. It’s raining a lot in United Kingdom and it’s temperature is law. In Spain weather is better than United Kingdom. Breakfast in United Kingdom is similar to lunch in Spain (British Breakfast) it has got neat, beans and bread. It’s typical eating fish and chips and dinking tea.
