BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Quiet quitting for our English teacher??

Some months ago I took a decision: I needed a 'quiet quitting' (The English We Speak, BBC Learning English) as I was beginning to feel burn out because I was overdoing it at work with little success and, above all, with little support from the educational community.

And so I wrote the post:

Valhalla awaits Rachnar!!

That doesn't mean I am not trying my best this school year. On the contrary, I keep pushing to achieve the highest goals possible, even if I know I am not teaching any further than the level of 4º ESO.

Food and food waste, a big world problem

Food is a big problem for some people. Hunger, starvation... are common problems in many places in the world such as Africa, India... However, we've got enough people for everybody. Actually, in some places such as USA they have so much food that they waste it.

One possible solution >>>>

Here's an article to read about the issue:

Tesco pledges to end edible food waste by March 2018 (The Guardian)

What do you do not to waste so much food at home? Read the following article and watch the video and tell me interesting words connected with the semantic field of 'food'. For instance, 'edible'. What does this word mean? Which verb does this adjective come from?

In your comment you can use QUANTIFIERS (Here's a video for you to watch and some exercises for you to do). For example: "At home we eat very little bread, so we do not buy much".

Here's some basic vocabulary for the World Cup 2018.

Now let's cook the PERFECT OMELETTE!!!  Watch this video and tell me how to make it using the PASSIVE VOICE. Here's a possible start:

Example: First of all, a frying pan is needed. Then three eggs are taken from the fridge.

Useful verbs you may need: stir, pour, fry, add, set, serve...

We all wish it would rain down!!!!

And so does Phil Collins in this song:

How would you translate the sentence? Why do you use 'would'?

We all wish things were and would be so different!!!  That's the case with food waste. What do we do with all the food that is produced and not consumed in developed countries. Here are some related articles for you to read (you can also have a look at the LINGOHACK section, where the issue is also dealt):

'WASTED! The Story of Food Waste' premieres On Demand  (USA today)

Which verb does the word 'edible' (first article) come from? What does 'retailer' mean?

Activities for my 2º ESO studens: What do you usually eat? Do you leave anything on the plate? Do you throw it away? What did you use to eat five years ago when you were younger? What does 'waste food' mean?

And now let's watch this video about SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT in English  >>>
