Every time I explain the hypothetical conditionals to my students I give them this example:
Let's imagine Pau Gasol talking to his mum when he was three years old. One day he comes to her and says: "Mumy, one day I would like to play in the NBA if I were taller and played basketball". The possibilities at that time were close to zero, but that's the difference with the impossible conditionals, there was a tiny chance that that child's dream came true.
And, actually, that dream came true and Pau Gasol became our G.O.A.T.S. (Greatest Of All Times in Spain) and he's a legend both for our basketball and for the history of the NBA.
