Just a few days ago, we were all with our school routines: We used to get up early, we used to wait for the school bus, we used to have long tiring school days full of exams, homework.. and we used to study and do homework in the afternoons/evenings!!!

 

Now we are free. We no longer have to get up early and take the school bus, we don't have to do any homework or studying any longer. We can enjoy long summer days at the beach, doing sport with friends, hanging around and meeting new people. But remember time passes quickly and the future is in our hands, so...

May is nearly gone and June is knocking on the door. We are tired, the weather conditions don't help... but we still have to struggle to reach the finish line and achieve our goals. 

 

Summer holidays are just round the corner and we will always have time to rest and recover from another hard school year. Interacting with your friends and relatives will help, not social media!

Homo homini lupus

 

 

This Latin proverb, meaning literally 'man is a wolf to a man', is used to situations throughout history and everywhere on the planet where man has behaved atrociously to man. This idea was also later developed by philosopher Thomas Hobbes.

It is true that fortunately it is not and has not been always like this, but the examples are many: the holocaust, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip, American atomic bombs on Japan during the II World War, the Ukranian-Russian conflict... and what White Men did to the Aboriginal people in Australia. Besides, wolves aren't such horrible animals, either!

 

My students in 4º ESO will be reading Rabbit-Proof Fence in the second term. It is a very interesting book which deals with this problem they had in Australia when the white men arrived and tried to carry out certain atrocities against the Aboriginal people.
