BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

In the Middle Ages armies would set siege on castles or even entire towns so as to make them surrender because of the lack of food supplies or just water. Now with the Strait of Hormuz blocked we are actually having problems with petrol, but also with certain fertilisers and... food!

Still in the clay season and just before Roland Garros, with Jannik Sinner seeded number 1, Carlos Álcaraz out of that race for the moment being because of his wrist injury, but with the emerging new Spanish champ Rafa Jódar, here we are in Rome, just before Roland Garros.

Once upon a time there was a great (tennis) emperor who ruled all over clay courts named RAFA NADAL ( L'imperatore di Roma  ,  NADAL: l'imperatore è tornato a Roma!!! ). We all thought "there ain't no sunshine when he's gone", but life goes on. So, I wonder now who will the be the next (tennis) emperor in Rome.

Happier alone?

"Happier alone"  "I beg your pardon. I am quite happy being part of a group, a family, a team, meeting friends and relatives...", although it is true that sometimes it is better to be alone than in bad company.

Some years ago there was a new trending behaviour that was born in South Korea that staying single was a better option.

Happy alone: the young South Koreans embracing single life (The Guardian)

Apart from the fact that humankind is meant to live in groups (family, society, country, continent, planet...), we have to be careful as a well-worn meme of a cartoon dinosaur says in the last article: "Be careful," the dinosaur says. "Don't let yourself become extinct like us."

What is the Maginot Line?

Every now and then Albert comes into the classroom, especially in 1º Bachillerato A, and makes reference to the MAGINOT LINE. As most students are always wondering what on earth this elderly teacher is talking about, he has just had the idea to make this entry. I hope you'll enjoy this piece of history.
