BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Victory belongs to the most tenacious

"Victory belongs to the most persevering." A quote attributed to Napoleon I and one which Roland Garros made his own... so much so that he inscribed it on his planes' propellers.

Here are two documents about this pioneer Roland Garros in English and in French. You'll discover an amazing story.

On the whole, our students should never give up. They should keep working in a tenacious (synonym: 'persevering') way so as to achieve their goals in life.

Activities for my students:

  • 1º ESO - Talking about routines (Unit 3). Interview Rafa Nadal about his daily routines?

Example: What time do you get up? When do you have breakfast?

  • 1º ESO - Describe Rafa Nadal physically (Unit 1). What does he look like?

Example: What does he look like? He's quite tall. He's got short brown hair.

  • 1º ESO - A friend of yours wants to become a professional tennis player (Unit 5. Exercise 8). Using the modal verbs MUST, CAN, SHOULD in the affirmative and the negative give him/her some advice and think about possible questions she/he can ask you.

Example: You must have a tennis racket. You can play in Salobreña. You shouldn't eat too much before a match.

Can you play when it rains? Must I wear shorts? Should you have some classes before a match?

  1. Rafael Nadal will always be a good example to follow in all aspects. I don't think someone as intelligent, fighter, educated, optimistic and non-conformist could ever exist. It would be good for everyone to take some aspect of Nadal and apply it to their life.

I have been admiring Rafael Nadal since I was quite small, and he continues to surprise me more and more, but I don't think he surprises only me, he has surprised all of Spain. Most of us were almost sure that after winning this Roland Garros he would retire from his tennis career, but no, he deceived us all. It has reached a point where we are used to not cease to surprise us and that is fantastic.

It is clear that no one in this life will ever be able to catch up with Nadal. What kind of person keeps racing with a numb foot? I'm honestly scared for him. They have said that it was likely that if he kept playing with his foot like this, in two years he could be lame, but the truth is that nobody will know his body better than him.

That's what I mean that no one is going to be able to match it, people today complain at the slightest and throw in the towel at the first opportunity.

  2. Nadal is a famous Spanish tennis player, he is 36 years old and is one of the best tennis players in the world.
This man is an example to follow for everyone, he is an intelligent person, and the most
important thing is that when he plays tennis he has a lot of sportsmanship with his teammates.

In the last few days I have seen on TV that he has a problem with his foot, and if he operates on it he may lose mobility, this is very difficult for him, because when he is operated on he probably won't be able to play as he has done these years.
He always surprises us and we hope he continues to surprise us.

He has won 13 Rolland Garros, I think this is incredible because at his age he continues to do his best.
This year we thought it was the last for him but he surprised us with this phrase
“I am going to fight to continue for as long as I can”, I think that there will never be someone like him.

I have always wanted to be a great footballer and go far.
But I think you have to have a lot of strength and a lot of intelligence to be able to go far.

The padel has got walls behind you, if the ball touch first the wall, is point. You must play it with a teamate, but in Madrid, there are courts for only two players. You shlud try it, is so fun. But the rackets are not like tennis rackets.

Furthermore, they ought to be proficient; in examinations, it's imperative that they assess what was covered in lectures, and homework assignments should align with class content. On the flip side, students need to exhibit respect and attentiveness during explanations.
