By studying the DNA of 17,000 people, 50 research groups identified 24 new genetic links to diseases such as bipolar disorder, Crohn's disease, heart disease, diabetes types 1 and 2, rheumatoid arthritis and hypertension, tripling the number of genes previously associated with them.

The genetic defect responsible for the most common inherited form of mental retardation, Fragile X syndrome, was identified by Fellows March of Dimes. Today science is advancing at an amazing speed and everything of our life has changed beyond recognition. It constitutes an attempt to conquer the forces of nature and aims to give man increasing power over his surroundings.
