BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Mummy, one day I would like to play in the NBA if...

Every time I explain the hypothetical conditionals to my students I give them this example:

Let's imagine Pau Gasol talking to his mum when he was three years old. One day he comes to her and says: "Mumy, one day I would like to play in the NBA if I were taller and played basketball". The possibilities at that time were close to zero, but that's the difference with the impossible conditionals, there was a tiny chance that that child's dream came true.

And, actually, that dream came true and Pau Gasol became our G.O.A.T.S. (Greatest Of All Times in Spain) and he's a legend both for our basketball and for the history of the NBA.

  1. Pau Gasol is an advisor, investor and activist in sports. He played professionally basketball for 20 years in the NBA, the Spanish national team and the ACB.
He is president of the Gasol Foundation, a member of the Commission of Athletes of the COI and Global Champion for the nutrition and the end of the childhood obesity of UNICEF.

He started playing professionally for FC Barcelona. In those early years he was twice champion of the ACB and once champion of the Copa del Rey (2000-2001).

In 2001 Pau became the second Spanish athlete to play in the NBA, and in that first season he was recognized as the 'Rookie of the Year'.

In 2006, he was the first Spaniard chosen to play in an All-Star Game in Houston, the first of his six appearances in this event. After his transfer to the Lakers in February 2008, Pau achieved one of his dreams by becoming NBA champion in the 2008–09 season.

In 2021, Pau Gasol signed for Barça, returning to European basketball at the club where he was formed. That same year he announced his retirement from professional basketball.

I feel sad because his retirement from basketball, but I feel happy too because he has achieved his dreams.

  4. All the child dream with nearly imposible things, very difficult to get, most of them don't know even what are they saying, but I think that is very important to dream, to have a goal and as more difficult, better. Because if you cannot achieve it, you will stay in a place that, even if you have not reached your purpose, will be just as good.

Pau Gasol is a lucky person, he put his goal too hight and he get it too, but it is clear that it cost him a lot of work, and that is the problem for the dream of other people, they want to have everything easy, without any kind of effort, and that's the reason why people give up before their time.

  6. Pau Gasol will go down in history for being one of the best Spanish athletes in history among some, you can also include Alonso Nadal Iniesta Xavi Casillas etc. I would like to be an F1 engineer if everything goes the way I hope it will. The best moment in Gasol's sports career in my opinion was in the great years of the Lakers accompanied by Kobre Bryant.

  7. I love the basketball, but I dont always play it. When I was little I remember that I watched more football than I watch now. But nowadays I am watching basket, a player who I loves is Stephen Curry. He plays for the Golden States Warriors in the NBA. He is from the United States and has been a three-time NBA champion and a two-time MVP of the season. Another player that fascinates me is Luka Doncic, he plays for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA from Real Madrid. He is 2.01 meters tall and plays point guard but can play shooting guard and forward as well

He played with Barcelona too and he converted three times champion with this team . The people say he was the best basket player ever in the NBA . He is the second spanish player what played in the NBA ( the first is Fernando Martín ) and he was the first player not american to be named Rokie of the year of the NBA ( in 2002 ) . He played 22 years in basketball . At his farewell he told "I would like Kobe Bryant to be here with us to see me but he said goodbye before me , for me he was a brother " .

  9. A few days ago we learned about some really bad news, a piece of news that broke the hearts of all those who are fond of basketball. The piece of news was that Pau Gasol, the Spanish basketball star, announced his retirement, so he will never play again in the NBA. It is really sad not to watch him again in one of these fantastic matches that he played. It is something that affect the world of sport and there were also some famous people who talked about it.

Pau Gasol started playing basketball in his school, and later he started his basketball career when he was accepted in FC Barcelona when he was 16 year old. Playing with them he became world champion with the junior national team in 2001. In the same year he went to the Nba where he played with Memphis Grizzles, where he played for some years. In 2008, the Angeles Lakers sign him in his team, where he started to win a lot of fame and was considered like one of the best basketball players in history. In the last important team that he played was the Chicago Bulls, he played with them for two years.

Pau was one of mi favourite basketball players, I liked to watch his matches because he played really well, one of my favourite matches is Spain against France in Semi-final of the Eurobasket in 2015 because it was a really exciting and interesting match because they were in tie all the match until the end, that Spain won thanks to Pau because he scored the last points in the match, scoring a total of 40 points by himself.

Finally, I think that Pau Gasol will be the best Spanish player ever because he did, during his basketball career, a lot of things and we will remember him for ever, although he announced his retirement and won't play more matches, because he made history in the basketball world, being famous for all the world. So, thanks Gasol for all you did!

  10. Paul Gasol is the clear example that dreams can become true with effort and without giving up. He is a really good basketball player that has been playing basketball for many years and the other day I saw on the news that he has retired from professional basketball. For all basketball fans, that was very sad news.

I always say to my sisters that I would like to be part of a music band playing the drums.
They always support me and I’m trying my best to make my dream come true.

I have been trying to learn how to play “Good for you” by Olivia Rodrigo for a month. This song is hard to learn , but I think that in one month more I will be able to play it.

I think when your dreams come true is the best sensation that you would have, so I hope to live it.

He played 18 seasons in the NBA, where he was twice champion, and another 3 in FC Barcelona. He retired from basketball a short time ago, but he will still be known for all of his accomplishments.

The teams where he was playing were F.C Barcelona, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks, and finally, he returned to his old team (Barcelona) to finish his playing career.

An example, is Paul Gasol who is now a basketball ex-player because he had recently retired, but he did real his dream, and that is an example that dreams come true if you work hard and stay positive.

One of my dreams most important for me, is can study what I like, if I pass the selectivity exam, but for this, I'm trying to make an effort for me and to get better.

  16. Pau Gasol is the best basketball player in Spain, he has been playing basketball since he was very young.

He began to play basketball in the school categories and from there, he was signed by the FC Barcelona youth academy where he began to stand out in the team but like many young athletes it was difficult for him to combine studies and sports.

At the age of 16, Pau Gasol joined the first club of FC Barcelona, where the first year he was already proclaimed Junior Champion of Spain, from there he began to win prizes, becoming twice champion in the NBA and three times champion in FC Barcelona and being ha without the player with the most individual awards from Spain.

In my opinion, Pau Gasol's sports career has been incredible and being without doubt the player I won't probably see for a long time, he was REALLY AUTHENTIC !!!

  17. I´m not a big fan of sports and therefore not a big fan of basketball, and because it isn´t something that interests me a lot, until now I didn´t know about the retirement of Pau Gasol. I put myself in the shoes of the basketball fans of Pau and I suppose it was very sad news, because he was a great player and had been playing for many years.

I think that when Pau was little and he told his mother about his dreams, she didn´t think that they would come true. This shows that although our dreams aren´t the most common or many people tell us that they will not come true, we must fight for them, and they may or may not come true, but we must never give up on it.
The more dreams and goals we have for our future, the better it will. The more, the better!

Although in the past some American universities offered him to study there with a scholarship, it was in 2001 when he moved to the United States to play in the team Memphis Grizzlies.

Also, he played at Angeles Lakers, where he met his good friend Kobe Bryant who once said “Pau Gasol is incredible”, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks, and Portland Trail Blazers. He was the second Spanish player at the NBA. This year, he returned to Spain playing one more time with the FC Barcelona Basketball.

After 24 years playing basketball, One World Cup (2006), two NBA rings, three Eurobasket (2009, 2011, and 2015), three ACB leagues (1999, 2001, 2021), and a Cup’s King (2001) he has decided to retire from the basketball this October.

Personally, searching for information about Pau Gasol I have seen how splendid player he is, apart from how he helps society, and I can’t understand why the NBA doesn’t include him at the list top-75 best NBA’s players in history. He must be in it.

With 2.13 meters of height he played in the position of power forward. Pau is widely considered the best Spanish player of all time, among the best Europeans to have played in the NBA and one of the most decisive FIBA players in history.
Pau became the second Spaniard to play in the NBA after Fernando Martín, being the first to be chosen to play an NBA All-Star Game, to qualify for the playoffs, and to win the NBA championship. In addition, he is the first non-American player to be named NBA Rookie of the Year.
He was selected in the third position of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, but his rights were transferred to the Memphis Grizzlies where he played six and a half seasons. Upon leaving the Grizzlies, he held franchise records for the most total points scored, games played, minutes played, field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, total rebounds, blocks and losses.

  20. I believe that Pau Gasol is the best Spanish basketball player in history. At just 21 years old he was chosen to play for the Memphis Grizzlies. This was historic because since Fernando Martin left in 1985, no Spanish had ever played in the NBA.
He has had a successful NBA career winning two rings. With the Spanish team he has won a World Cup, several medals at the Olympic Games and three European Championships. An impressive record.
But what I like the most about Pau Gasol is his way of being, he is a caring, humble and hard-working person. With his retirement a new stage begins.

  22. In my opinion, when we are children, we would like to be like someone famous. People who like playing basketball, I am sure that they love Pau Gasol.

He is admired for his play, his talent and the things that he has achieved. For example, he played in the NBA where he was Kobe Bryant’s friend, who was as brother for him. But before all of this, he had been playing in Spain. He started in FC Barcelona and his great change was to go to the NBA. There, his first team was Memphis Grizzlies where he was playing for seven years. He has played in other teams like Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

During his career, he has had great moments, for example: He was the first no American player that received the award Rookie.
