BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

2020, a leap year

Raise ( English in a Minute:  'RAISE' vs 'RISE'   (BBC Learning English) ) your hand if you know what a 'leap year' is. What does 'leap' mean?

Planet Earth takes 365.25 days to complete its rotation around the sun. To compensate for the extra 0.25, we add a day every four years and that is why this year will be 366 days long!!

  3. A leap year is the year the have 366 days instead of 365. This extra day is the 29th of February. We can have a leap year every four years.

Leap years exist because the earth doesn't take exactly 365 days to go around the sun. It takes a bit less than 355 days and 6 hours. Our calendar ignores these 6 hours and "accumulates" them so every four years we have accumulated a day and we add this day to February.

This year has exist since the year 46BC. It began with the julian calendar created by Julius Caesar. This calendar created an extra day every four years.

Actually there are some interesting facts about leap years. For example 2000 or 1800 are leap years, but 1900 or 1700 are not leap years because century leap years must be divisible by 400.

  4. This year is a leap year, and thanks to that we have been able to enjoy another day in February. Being the shortest month of the year, one more day is added.

The Andalusian students have been fortunate to enjoy a long break of four days, because the day of Andalusia is celebrated on February 28, and the day that is added to February is the 29th.

These days I have been able to rest, and I have also enjoyed my family a lot, we have gone on a trip to Cadiz, and we have gone to the famous carnivals.

Thanks to the extra six hours of the year we have one more day to enjoy with the family, to read, to study, to play ...

Every four years we can enjoy another day!

  11. A leap year is the year which has 366 days instead of 365. One extra day is added to the shortest month of the year-February. This year occurs every four years.

The Earth takes 365 days and 6 hours to complete its rotation around the sun. This means that the calendar year is about 6 hours shorter than the actual solar year and that´s why leap years are observed every four years.

This year, 2020, is a leap year, which means that February has 29 days instead of 28. So everyone born on February 29th gets to celebrate their birthday this year!

The phrase ¨leap year¨is used because each date of the calendar jumps ahead two days of the week instead of one.

  13. A leap year is a year like this year, we have one day more in February, having for this reason 366 days, not 365 like any other ordinary year. A leap year happens every 4 years, and as the Earth take 365 days and 6 hours, each fourth year we add 6 hours resulting into a total addiction of 24 hours, making this day added in February.

Nowadays it is an averange day that we make the same thing as the other days, but in the past they think that this day was a bad luck day and this resulted into the fact that everybody considered this kind of years very unlucky.

In my opinion, nowadays it is the same if we have one more day or if we have a day less, because in our society we are used to doing the same thing. We think that we need to celebrate this day, because I think that it is a special day that only takes place each 4 years.

  14. A common year is 365 days long, but there are some years that have 366 days. They´re called leap years, and they add one day to February. This kind of years happens each 4 years, and that´s because the Earth takes 365 days and 6 hours, so every 4 years you´ve got 24 extra hours, which is a day.
This was intoduced in the 1 b.C, when Cesar changed the Roman calendar searching for a solution to the inequality of the seasons.
There are many people that have been born on that day, but of course they don´t only add years that day, so they celebrate their birthday the day before or the day after.
As a curious fact, in some countries it is thought that these days bring bad luck, so they say "año bisiesto, año siniestro". In Greece, they think that the whole year will bring bad luck, not only the day.

  15. This year is a leap year, that means February will have 29 days.
We have a leap year every four years.
Leap years exist because it doesn't take Earth exactly 365 days to go around the sun, it takes under 355 days and 6 hours.
Leap years keep the modern Gregorian calendar in line with Earth's turns on the Sun.
    The leap years between 2010 and 2050 are: 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036, 2040, 2044, 2048.
The curiosities that I have found of the leap year are:
In England, women asked men to marry on February 29.
There were generations born in leap, one of them were the Keogh family has a very particular family tree, since the grandfather was born on February 29, 1940, his son on February 29, 1964 and the granddaughter on February 29, 1996.
And in Greece, getting married in a leap year is considered unlucky.
