BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

DART mission

There are times when fiction becomes reality and that is the case of the Dart mission. Here you've got an article for you to read to learn about what it really is:

Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission (NASA)

and another one explaining the reasons why:

  1. DART is a test of technologies driven by the planetary defense to prevent an impact from the Earth by a dangerous asteroid, will be the first desmostration of the kinetic impactor technique to chance the moviment of an asteroid in the space. These improvements will help us to prepare better in the event of an asteroid be descovered as a threat to the Earth, stands NASA.

The test mission this directed by the NASA to the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins along with a others NASA centers. DART launched on 24th November, 2021 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. After the separation, DART will intercept the asteroid Dimorphos at the end of September 2022, when detected at 11 millions of km from the Earth.

Aims to demonstrate a method for the deviation asteroids, called impact kinetic. On October 2022, DART will impact on the little asteroid Dimorphos, to change it´s orbital period, which orbits a larger asteroid called Dydimos.

The spaceship will achieve the deviation of the impact by crashing into Dymorphos on purpose at a speed approximately for 6,6 km/s, with the help of an camara aboard (called DRACO) and a sophisticated software autonomous. The collision will change the speed of the asteroid in it´s orbit around Dydimos about 1%, what necessary to be observed and measured with telescopes from te Earth.

  2. I saw in the news about this mission . It consists in send a spacecraft to a meteorite to put out of his trajectory , this is going to do because it can impact with the earth and destroy it . The NASA send the spacecraft in the early morning of the 24th Novembre . This spacecraft will impact with the meteorite in the autumn of 2022 . The scientist insure what the explosion will create the impact the spacecraft will be equivalent to three tons of TNT .

  3. I've always been afraid of space and all things related to it. Just thinking of being alone in such a big place, with nothing around, overwhelms me a lot. I think is something I would never do. The dream os many young children is to be an astronaut, to be inside a rocket and to be sent into space. When you are little you're not afraid of anything, you do not see the risks of certain things, but even so, when I was little I was also afraid of space.

Despite my fear of space, I will always admire the work of astronauts, I think they have tried a lot to get where they are, the astronauts career is very complicated and requires a lot of effort. Astronauts are continually at risk and are not afraid of anything, I think that more than one of us lacks that courage today, and if it is really what you like, take a risk and dedicate yourself to it.

Apart from Astronaut there are many other jobs that I would never do, I think there are jobs that I can do in which I am not in so much danger. Being an airplane pilot is another job that I would be unable to do in the future, or the people who dedicate themselves to extracting the venom from snakes is that I see that that are jobs that there is more probability that something bad will happen to you than for you to come out healthy and except there.

However, these jobs will always be necessary and if I do not dedicate myself to them because I am not brave enough, I am happy to think that there are people in the world who would risk their lives to do something they like.

  4. In the space race, there are a lot of countries inside and there are a lot of races longer. Chine is progressing, but it's the first time that a private company wants to go to the space. Tourism space is real, but is only for rich people right now, may be three years later everybody could go to the space and will be very inexpensive. The technology have progressed, but is difficult the poor people progress.

  5. Omicron in little time will be the predominant variant in the world. This variant start in South Africa, in that moment a lot of countries close his borders with South Africa but in the end Omicron got expanded it in all the world. The good notice is that Omicon makes less deaths that other variants and is more good the recuperation than other variants but the bad notice is Omicron makes more infecteds than other variants.

  6. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission is directed by NASA to the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory with support from several NASA centers: the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Goddard Space Flight Center, Johnson Space Center.
DART is a planetary defense-driven test of technologies for preventing an impact of Earth by a hazardous asteroid. DART will be the first demonstration of the kinetic impactor technique to change the motion of an asteroid in space. The DART mission is led by APL and managed under NASA’s Solar System Exploration Program at Marshall Space Flight Center for NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office and the Science Mission Directorate’s Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.
DART is a spacecraft designed to impact an asteroid as a test of technology. DART’s target asteroid is NOT a threat to Earth. This asteroid system is a perfect testing ground to see if intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid is an effective way to change its course, should an Earth-threatening asteroid be discovered in the future. While no known asteroid larger than 140 meters in size has a significant chance to hit Earth for the next 100 years, only about 40 percent of those asteroids have been found as of October 2021.
The DART spacecraft will achieve the kinetic impact deflection by deliberately crashing itself into the moonlet at a speed of approximately 6.6 km/s, with the aid of an onboard camera (named DRACO) and sophisticated autonomous navigation software. The collision will change the speed of the moonlet in its orbit around the main body by a fraction of one percent, but this will change the orbital period of the moonlet by several minutes - enough to be observed and measured using telescopes on Earth.

  7. Omicron is a variant from Covid-19; the first case was detected in South Africa in November. The most common symptoms are muscle pain, throat pain and fever. It has been proved the people don´t lose taste or smell with this variant. There are more contagions than with the previous variants. It is the fastest virus to infect you. It’s also certain thar the people who get infected die less because most people are vaccinated. The virus spreads earlier indoors or in crowds of people. We must continue wearing a mask to proctect us.

In my village there are many infected people. I hope that my family and I don’t get infected us and I hope that Covid-19 disappears.

  8. The DART mission is a test to be prepared in case an asteroid dangerous to the earth is detected one day, a mission is going to be carried out to divert the asteroid from its main path and thus avoid its collision with the earth.

It is a mission in which a machine designed to collide with an asteroid will be tested on a non-dangerous asteroid for the earth, this machine will be launched into space by a rocket called SpaceX Falcon 9.

It is true that we are increasingly surprised where technology can go, and we see how what previously seemed impossible and pure science fiction little by little is becoming a reality, this is happening during all the times in which human beings dream of the future and technological advancement.

Regarding the DART mission, it seems to me super good that NASA is testing new technology to protect us from some disasters that can occur in space which we can do nothing to avoid but with the help of technology there may be an option to protect ourselves of some of them, and to see if thanks to the advancement of technology we can travel to distant places in space and discover all their secrets.

  9. Actually it seems like science fiction, NASA has been carrying out a mission called the Double Asteroid Redirection Test or more simply, DART, to slow down the impact of an asteroid. This technology was designed to impact on asteroids in space, in the case that in the future an asteroid causes something that alters the safety of the planet, as I said, something that seems to be taken from a science fiction movie or book.

Although DART was launched on November 24, 2021 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, the mission will end in the fall of 2022. On this date the asteroid in question will be 11 kilometers from Earth.

Just when the asteroid is at that distance, the spaceship will achieve the deviation of the impact by crashing into the asteroid, approximately with a speed for 6,6 km / s, with the help of an camera aboard, DRACO, and sophisticated software. The collision will change the speed of the asteroid in its orbit.

For me, it is a great fact because thanks to this mission the deviation of asteroids by impact kinetic, they can test the method. This fact can open doors to new methods.

    1. I've been looking through some articles about this mission, and the reason why is the NASA doing this.

In fact, the DART (or the Double Asteroid Redirection Test) is a planetary defense-driven test of technologies for preventing the impact of Earth by some asteroids, in this case, a hazardous asteroid. This mission is managed under NASA's Solar System Exploration Program and the NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office, as the article says.

The reason why the NASA is doing this is because our planet is supposed to be in danger for a giant asteroid, and the NASA is trying to alter the asteroid's trajectory with kinetic force not to impact on our planet

  11. A few years ago, an asteroid passed close to Earth, very close. People were very scared and some even thought about the option of moving to bunkers. This seems excessive to me, but I think it is good to investigate how to act in this situation, as proposed by the DART Mission.

Depending on the size of the asteroid, the impact on the Earth will be greater or less. Going from very small asteroids, which would cause earthquake-like damage, or very large asteroids that can lead to the end of life on Earth. On Earth there is much evidence of large meteorite falls, such as the one at Vredefort, in South Africa, which is almost 300 kilometers in diameter. If an asteroid were to approach the planet today, the action protocol would begin by making sure of the size it has, to calculate the possible damage it could cause.

Among the possible solutions would be the deviation of its trajectory, which could be done either by a nuclear detonation or by sending a ship to meet it. The fracture or explosion of the asteroid is not contemplated for fear that the pieces will fall on Earth. Then, they would proceed to the evacuation of the meteorite risk areas.

To avoid the catastrophe that an asteroid can cause, it is necessary to invest capital in large investigations such as those carried out at NASA.

  13. We have been living in a coronavirus pandemic for almost two years, and during these two years the virus has not stopped mutating, variants have not stopped coming out.

Omicron is a new variant that appeared at the end of November. This variant has been found in South Africa. Scientists have been investigating where this variant may come from, and they believe omicron may have silently evolved in a single person with a weakened immune system in sub-Saharan Africa.

With the rapidly spreading omicron variant, which often causes mild symptoms such as a stuffy nose, headache, and sore throat, it is very difficult to tell the difference between one illness and another without testing, as it is a mild cold. It has been proven that people do not lose taste or smell with this variant. Only people die because it affects milder, since most of us are vaccinated with the two doses, and they are already vaccinating people with the third dose, Now they are vaccinating people aged 50-55 years. The person who becomes infected with this variant should remain in quarantine for 7-10.

We must continue with precautions and now even more so, since this variant spreads very easily and very quickly, and we must continue to use a mask indoors and outdoors.
In my town, there have been many people infected at Christmas by this variant and there are still many people infected, they do not stop getting infections.

  14. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test, also known as DART, is a mission directed by NASA which consists on changing the route of an asteroid by hitting it with a small spacecraft. The main objective is knowing what to do when an asteroid is going to hit the Earth

The asteroid chosen to try this mission is called Didymos and it has two bodies. The bigger one is 780 metres across and the smaller one or moonlet is about 160 metres across. The spacecraft will crash into the moonlet at a speed of about 6km/s, making the speed and direction of the moonlet change.

The mission began on the 24th of November, and the spacecraft will intercept Didymos in September 2022, as it's about 11 million kilometres far from the Earth.

In my opinion it's amazing that we could prevent asteroid to impact our planet. I hope this mission would succeed so we can be calm and not worry. It's true that the probability of an asteroid to impact the Earth is very low, but there have already been some asteroids which have caused the extinction of several animals.

  15. Due to the latest advacements in technology, we are able to explore the universe. This, a few years ago was imposible! It can offer us incredible and unimaginable things, from planets with different kinds of life, to black holes, passing through many other differents incredible things, like for example, a whole new state of matter, the plasma.

But not everything related to the universe is good, we have things which theaten the life of our planet. One example of this are meteorites. There are many different kinds of meteorites, from really small ones, which won´t even reach the surface, to the biggest ones which could destroy the life in our planet completely.

But, is there a way to avoid this tragic end? Of course it is. We can solve these problems in really different ways. You could think that the easiest and safest is to destroy the meteorite, but no, that´s not even a possibility. If a meteorite was a problem, lots of smaller ones, whose trajectories couldn´t be calculated would be much more dangerous than only one. So, knowing this, the only possibility is to deviate the meteorite. There are many different ways to do this, from nuclear explosions near it, destroying and boiling some parts of it; to attaching little ships which will push it out of its orbit.

In summary, and knowing how dangerous meteorites can be, it is really important to invest in ways to avoid this danger, so I think the DART Mission of the NASA is really good news, which will help us a lot in the future.

In conclusion, I think that this program called DART is neccesary knowing how dangerous meteorites can be. I hope that NASA don't have to launch this program in the future due to the threat of some asteroid.
