BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Enjoy the long journey to Ithaca

“When you set sail for Ithaca,
wish for the road to be long,
full of adventures, full of knowledge.”
C.P. Cavafy

The Greek poet from Alexandria Constantino Cavafis (1863-1933) tells us about the importance of enjoying the long journey, whichever journey, and not only be thinking about our goal, our destination. This is a metaphor to be applied to any targets in our life, or to the life itself.

That would be the case of our students in the quest for the best future they can expect and that is the case of teachers. Teaching is not an easy task, but with the rucksack full of eagerness and hopes this long vital journey will be more enjoyable. When I look back and see how much I have gone through (here's my blog and my site as an example) and the expectations I have for the future, I realise the importance of Cavani's poem making reference to Homer's voyage to Ithaca, his home.

I would like you to discover the real meaning of the poem and of what I have just said by having a look at the videos and articles I have prepared for you:

Today he had a tough match against the French tennis player Manarinno, especially in the tie-break they played in the first set.

    1. Ithaca is one amoung the more than 1,400 Greek islands located near Greece, in the Ionian Sea. It has an area about 120 km with a population of 3,000 , with its capital at Vathy.

The legend says that Ulises was king of Ithaca and he was married with Penelope and they had a son named Telemachus. He was also one of the leaders in the war that the Greeks had with the Trojans for ten years and he made a plan to burn Troy and save Helen, the wife of the Spartan king Melano. He built a horse of wood, moved it to Troy, and left the horse there. The Trojans believed that it was a gift from the Greeks and brought it into the city. At night, Ulises and the soldiers got out of the horse, set fire to Troy and rescued Helen.

My cousin told me this story when I was younger because she was a fan of mythology and I think it is very interesting.
