BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

If I were you, I'd...

The school year is coming to an end and I would like you to tell us about your experiences, so can you please make a comment giving some tips to your fellow students that next year will be doing the year you are about to finish.

Try to be sincere and, using appropriate advice structures, tell them what they should do. Include the level you are referring to at the beginning of your comment.

Here's an example. Pay attention to the structures used and also have a look at this (and then listen to the episode).

Other examples:
I'm a student of 2º ESO and I would like to give you some advice if you are in 2º ESO next year with Albert:

  • I think you should....
  • You must....
  • You have to.....
  • Study everyday...
  • Don't  keep your things untidy....
  • If I were you, I would....
  • If I were in your shoes, I would...
  • You'd better....
  • Maybe you could...
  • Try doing something (example: Try doing some comments during the summer time)
  • Perhaps it's a good idea to ....
  • And remember TO ADVISE, SPELT WITH AN S, IS THE VERB (I'd advise you to do sth) and ADVICE, SPELT WITH A C, IS AN UNCOUNTABLE NOUN (My piece of advice for you is...  OR I will give you some advice about...)

Write a comment giving your advice and tell me if you find any other useful structure or vocabulary connected with the issue.

Here are some activities I would do, if I were in your shoes:

Do you remember what I told you a few weeks ago about the possibility of going to Dublin next year? Next Tuesday, 24th May, we will be having a meeting at the school assembly room to give you some information and to make a survey to see if there are enough students interested to organize the study trip.

Here's a document about our trip in 2016.

And the proposal for next year...

Visit Dublin! If I were you, I would go!

  1. I´m a student of 3ºESO and I would like to give you some advice if you are in 3ºESO next year with Albert. First, I want to clear you that 3ºESO isn’t a very difficult curse, it’s like another year more, with more content and a little more complicated but nothing especial. But, there is a thing that it’s very important and it’s independent of the curse that you are and the subject, you should do homework every day and study early, you must don´t keep your things untidy, because now it’s so easy to pass the exam studying one day before, but in a future, this will not be possible.

About English, it’s a subject that you can pass without problems if you work it every day. I think you have to do homework because in that way you are studying English unconsciously. Also, In my opinion, it’s more important to do comments, writings, have an organized folder… because although the note is so important, this homework makes increase it. Albert, inclusive, gives you the opportunity of make a video to increase your note, and if you could not reach the note that you want, you would make it.

If with that advice you can not pass the subject, maybe, If I were you, I would watch English TV shows, practice with other people, listen to English music… Sometimes, it’s very difficult to organize so Albert gives you the option to work in summer, perhaps it’s a good idea!

  2. It's definitely been a really tough year. I would say that it has been the most difficult year of my life so far. We have had to do many exams and study a lot, like all 2º Bach students. Everyone says that it is the worst year for students...

However, we have also had a lot of good times together; we have gone to Sierra Nevada, to Madrid, we have laughed out loud and we have enjoyed a lot. Not everything has been studying. That's life, bad times but also good times.

If I were a 2º Bach student again, I would study hard next year. It is a very typical piece of advice, but it is the best that I can give you. I would also take advantage of this summer to do some things such as English homework, so that you don't forget the language and you also get some work done.

But we can´t become obsessed with studies or selectivity, we have just to be aware of how serious and important this test is, but not obsess. The more we want to control something, the more it controls us, so better take it easy!

  3. The end of my last year in IES Mediterráneo is near. I have lived many experiences here and I have some advice that is useful for new students.

This year I have studied 2º Bachillerato and it is a difficult year because there are a lot of things that we have to study. I think you should be very organised and you shouldn’t study for the exams the day before. If I were you, I would be very concentrated in the class. This can help when we study at home.

Doing all the homework and studying is essential, but we can’t forget that one of the most important things in the high school is our classmates. They are the people who have been with us in the good and the bad moments for 6 years. My piece of advice is that you must enjoy and spend time with them.

In conclusion, although 2º Bachillerato is a complicated year, it is a beautiful year. It is also sad because it is the last year with our classmates.

  5. This year has been much more complicated than the previous one. The change from ESO to Bach is very noticeable.

Despite the fact that it is one of the most complicated years that you are going to spend in your student period. You are going to live a very beautiful and unforgettable experience. There are some subjects that make it easier for you than others, so that depends on the person. The ones that have cost me the most have been physics and chemistry and mathematics.

It is true that I have started this course a little relaxed, so what I advise people who are going to go to 1st Bach is to be concentrated from the first moment because it is true that you cannot waste time since in bach everything counts.

My advice is to ask for help from someone who has done bach recently, I have my brother and the truth is that he has helped me a lot. Good luck!!

  6. This school year is coming to an end and we, all the students in 2ºBachillerato, are living our last year in the secondary school. Next year, we will be studying in other places, some will go to Universities and others will be doing differents vocational training. For these reasons, it is a nice and sad year, it's nice because we pass an educational stage and we start another that is totally different from it. But it is also a sad year because it's the last year with all our classmates and teachers.

Well, we always commit lots of mistakes in all our school years, so now that we have already finish this last year, we can advise and make some helpful tips to the students that next year will be doing 2ºBachillerato. The main piece of advice that we can give is that you have to study harder than the present year and almost everyday, always without giving up, although you think that you won't achieve what you want.

Other pieces of advices that we can give is that you'd better make yourself your activities, summaries... without copying it from other classmates, because, if you don't do it you won't learn. Besides, if I were in your shoes, I would take this new year with a lot of calm and relax, because it is a hard year and if you don't take it with some relax it can cause you some anxiety or other health illnesses.

Finally, as a conclusion, I reckon that although it is a hard school year, it's also one of the most beautiful school years, and at less, for me it has been one of the my best school years. For this reason, my last advice is to take advantage of this last year and to have a good time during all this year, which isn't so bad at all!

  7. I remember when I came for the first time to high school and I saw the time to enter bachiller far away, but now, my first year at bachiller is coming to an end.

These last two years are where we have to make the most effort and try our best because they are the most difficult years, and we’ll be able to study what we want in the future.

For me, one of the things that has helped me a lot is to study a little bit of all the subjects day a day and not leave them for the day before the exam as I used to do years ago.
You should ask all your doubts and have them resolved so when the time of the exam comes, you won't have any doubts.
Also you should sleep the necessary hours to be awake the next day and don’t fall asleep in class.

I also think it’s necessary to enjoy good times with your friends. In May we went to Canary Island and that has helped me a lot to come back with more desire to study and try my best this two weeks left.

  8. This year has been the most difficult year in high school for me.
It has been much more difficult than last year. I have noticed the difference between ESO and Bach.

Now we are a few days before the holidays, but soon again we will enter the high school again.
We have to be prepared for what comes next year, we will have to study a lot more and we will have the selectivity.

For me, it's my last year at the mediterranean high school, because next year I'm going to study at the art school that I've always wanted to go to.
It will be quite different because I will no longer have the same teachers and I will miss them.
But well, I'll finally be able to study what I've always wanted, and I'll have to give it my all.

  10. Hello friends, I am going to give you some tips to pass English.
My piece of advice is that you have to work hard, you have to do things by yourself, do your homework and work every day.

You have to work every day to learn better and not have difficulties. What is most difficult for me are the exams because I get very nervous and sometimes fail. So you have to have confidence and security with yourself.
If you do these tips you will surely approve.

  11. The truth is that this year is being quite difficult and stressful for me, especially in English, where I fail most of the exams, but I don't know how I manage to pass the last term, thing that happened to me last year in 3ºESO and it's amazing.

I would like to say a few things to try to pass English; it's something very repetitive to listen to all the solutions and proposals that Albert tells us to improve in English, that if I were you it's better to listen and pay attention to what he say, that this can help you a lot. Another point is to know tricks to memorize and learn English well, in adittion to making comments and writings weekly, and for that you better not use the translator (not like me who admits that I use it), but try to translate yourself, and if you make a mistake try again, after all, we learn from our mistakes.

Finally, try to do your best, overcome your limits and one day you will get what you deserve, pass English.

  12. In my opinion, next year in 3º in the class we will have different people and others will not be with us. We will have different teachers and other subjects, for example biology.

Next year I'm going to play football in Motril. On December all my family are going to have a Christmas dinner. In summer we are going to Cazorla on Holidays.

Real Madrid is playing against Bayer Munchen on 28th April. This weekend I am playing a football match against Reino de Granada.

If I were you, I would study to have good work and a good life, in my opinion. If I were you, I wouldn't drink alcohol and I wouldn't smoke because it is bad for your health.
