BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Bearded men to work!!!

Amazing! Have a look at this

News ReviewTaliban: NO BEARD, NO JOB!  (BBC Learning English)

The Taliban has told men who work for the government that if they shave their beards and don't wear traditional local clothing - long loose top and trousers, and hat or turban - they will not be allowed in their workplace and might even be fired.

The group regained control of Afghanistan last August, 20 years after being ousted, as the remaining Western troops and diplomats left.

Do you think that this kind of requirements are necessary to be allowed to work? Is it the same in all jobs? For example, there are certain jobs tattoed people cannot apply for. Is it fair?

Here are some articles for you to read related to the issue:

‘No entry will be available in office without beard and dress code’, orders of Taliban, said – may be leave from job (NewsNCR)

My musical hint for today also makes reference to the issue: While you see a chance by Steve Winwood. Yes, my dear students, while you see a chance, take it!!! Stay healthy!!

Here's a version with the lyrics for you to sing along!!

  2. Carlos Alcaraz is a young tennis player from Spain, he is the greatest promise of tennis and the people said that he is the new Nadal. He has won a lot of titles and now is 9th in the ranking mundial.

He is a boy which he likes be competitive, solidary and respectful of his rivals. He has got 18 years and with that age he chooses to be the best in the world in the coming years. This boy is amazing and I hope he continues to win more titles and I don't think he will become like Nadal, but something similar. He will be a crack¡

  3. When we look for a job, there are a lot of things that we have to write in the CV: studies, languages, experience… and sometimes we have to put a photo. In some places, if they don’t like your appearance, you can’t work with them.

People always classify the other depending on their nationality, culture, religion, social class, money… These are the stereotypes that affect us when we want a job. I think that a good idea is not put a photo or write our name, only our experience.

It is logical that there are requirements to get a position, because the companies look for a specific profile. However, other requirements like the aspect of our hair, if it is short or long, and the tattoos that we have shouldn’t be necessary.

In conclusion, I think that our physical appearance is not so important if we are good and efficient when we do our work.

  4. In the last weeks everyones is talking about the promise of tennis Carlos Alcaraz.
His career has grown after winning the Madrid Open, defeating two legends of tennis as Rafa Nadal and Djokovic. Is constantly compared with Rafa Nadal this can be a compliment but it can also affect the pressure, because even he has things similar to Nadal he is a different player.
He is currently playing one of the most important tennis tournaments, which is Roland Garros. He has passed three rounds and tomorrow he will play the round of 16.
It would be incredible to see a Nadal vs. Alcaraz final, which are the present and the future of Spanish tennis.

  5. We are lucky to live in Spain and not live a life as strict as those in Afghanistan. I think it is very unfair that in the times we are in, the men of that country have to wear traditional clothes and with beards that many do not want, in order to work.

I think the Taliban are very bad people and they have no humanity as they have shown it a lot. I do not understand why they have to get to fire a person for not wearing a beard, that is not respecting the rights of people.

Due to the prejudices that still exist today, some jobs may not let you work with certain tattoos. I think people think that showing tattoos to the public can be unprofessional or even uncomfortable for some people. I have looked for information and I have found that in the health sector, for example, it is not well seen, nor in very formal jobs that have to be very well dressed, nor in the civil guard.

I think that if a person is tattooed it is because it has a meaning for him or simply because he likes it and I believe that this should not affect the time of being hired to work in any place. We are all the same regardless of the clothes, tattoos, piercings or any outfit we wear, and therefore we must begin to change that closed mentality.
