BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Sportmanship

Not long ago in the 1000 Master Miami tennis tournament we saw how the Norwegian tennis player Caasper Ruud conceded a first serve to Carlos Alcaraz, despite the chair umpire's opinion, after a wrong decision he had taken. That is what we call 'great sportmanship', that is to say:

fair and generous behaviour or treatment of others, especially in a sporting contest. Example:"he displayed great sportsmanship in defeat"

A synonym would be 'fair play' and there are sports where this attitude is usually present and applauded by the public.

Here are some other examples of sportmanship or fair play: When Sportsmanship Is At Its Best!

My musical hint for today also makes reference to the issue: Black Petty by Ram Jam (originally sung by Leadbelly). Here's a version with the lyrics for you to sing along!!

  1. Sportsmanship and respect in my opinion are fundamental because without sportsmanship sport would not be the same, but rather it would be more like a job of pure competition and cruelty.

However, this is not the case, since sportsmanship resides in sport, and when this sportsmanship does not arise, it is very frowned upon in this world, when someone in sports does not respect their rival and does not show that sportsmanship, it is too cruel, since, you are despising the work done by your rival or rivals, work that has been hard for them, when this happens a lot of hatred is generated that is not typical of sport.

In my opinion, sportsmanship between rivals is something fundamental for sport since thanks to this we can make sure that hate is not generated, but rather competitiveness in the loser, and encouragement and consolation are provoked for those who have worked so hard.

  2. When we play a sport, it’s easy to fall into the temptation of attacking your rival or even your partner for many reasons. For example, if your teammate has made a bad pass to you and this causes your team to lose, you have an impulse to insult or even hit them. Or if the opponent has done an action and causes you to lose, you have the same impulses.

But a good athlete must learn to eliminate those impulses and act with sportsmanship. We mustn’t forget that the base in any sport must be sportsmanship. Because sport without respect would be a group of people fighting to win, like a war.

As we have seen in the title of this blog post, there are many examples of athletes who prefer to lose than to win knowing that they don’t deserve it. Although we also know examples of athletes who forgot sportsmanship. Some years ago, a team match of Uruguay went viral when one of his players, Luis Suárez, bit on the shoulder to a rival player.

For me it is essential to win or lose cleanly. Because if you win without deserve it, it wouldn't be right for the other person who lost knowing they shouldn't lose. In sport we cannot forget that the basis is sportsmanship and that the important thing is to play, winning or losing.

  5. The best athletes show respect, modesty and effort. At those moment when nobody would make those gestures that these great athletes do. I believe, there is a big difference between a good athlete and the best athletes. These gestures tell you a lot about what an athlete is and how he plays.

An athlete can be very good in his sport, but if he doesn't has a good attitude, he will always be a loser because one of the most important things in an athlete is his attitude and his gestures.

For example athlete as Rafa Nadal, Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi, Pau Gasol, Usain Bolt, they are legends in his sport and they showed great gestures with people who had problems, illnesses or children.
They are example for following for every athletes and there are very few like them.

From my point of view, they must show respect and discipline because they are people who are followed by a lot of people around the world so, they must an example for all of us.

  6. The sportmanchip is a good way to receive bad things in sports, to know how to lose. I know people who have sportmanship and others who don't, I think I have fair play.

There are two types of people, the people who have sportmanship and the others are the people who don't have it. The people who don't have it are very boring, repetitive and tiring. They have to learn that sometimes you will win and sometimes you will lose. And the people who have sportmanship are the opposite.

On the one hand, I think having sportmanship is very positive in all your life. It has many advantages, it gives you tranquility and peace with yourself. On the other hand, when you don't have it, I think you hurt yourself because you always want to win and to be the best and you have to know that you can't always be the best.

I think most people have fair play and only a few don't have it. From my point of view, if we all have sportmanship it will be less of a problem in doing sports, like in the football match. You have to know how to lose, I think is the key to having fair play.

  8. Nowadays, we can see that all doctors usually recommend everybody to practise some sport, to do some kind of exercise, or even only to go out for a walk everyday. That can sound really normal, you must do some exercise to keep you body fit, and don't have several illnesses, but there are still people who don't do any exercise, so they usually have healh problems. But fortunately, almost all people pay attetion to the doctors and practise some kind of sport, so that's good.

So, there are some things that you need to know if you practise a sport, specially if you practice a team sport, like basketball or football. Because if you practice a sport in which you are not in a team, like fencing, badminton, archery, or single tennis, you can get angry with your teammates, because you are alone, so if you fail, or you lose a match, it can hurt you more, because you know that your rival is better than you, or he has had just a better day than you. But if you practise a team sport, and you lose a match, there are some people who usually blame their teammates for the defeat.

For this reason, if you are a really sporty person, even more if you play seriously, that is you play in important tournaments and you go almost everyday to train for some hours, you need have sportsmanship, need to be fair and generous with your teammates and give them a good treatment, because even if they are your rivals, you know that like you they are making an effort to win. So, you can't give them a bad treatment.

Finally, as a conclusion, I reckon that if you usually practice sport in at a high level you need to have sportsmanship. Usually, we can see some examples of sportsmanship among the best athletes, we can see that they help mutually when they need help, for example, in a marathon, they help each other when they are exhausted. So there are lot of people who need to learn this from the athletes.

  9. The first thing that we need to learn before practice a sport is the sportmanchip, generosity, empathy. Most of the times it is much more important how to compete rather than been good at your sport.

It is very satisfying, to see that within the sport, the competitiveness, the desire to beat the opponent, there is a minimum of value and respect towards him. Demonstrating that our values are much more important than any victory or competition.

You should make sure you know how to compete long before you start competing, no matter how good you are at what you do.

Sportmanship is everything, and everyone is going to need a little help at least once time on your live. So if you are the one who can lend a hand, don't think twice before helping.

  10. When I think of sport, I think of different things: effort, team, competition, sacrifice, respect, fun. Sport is part of my life because I have played football since I was a child and I have lived many experiences.

On one hand, there are always problems and conflicts because people are very competitive. In all teams there are some people who are aggressive and don’t care if they damage the others players. Even I have seen boys who kick other players without the ball and the referee can’t use the red card because he hasn’t see anything clearly.

On the other hand, football has given me a lot of good things. I have learned values like kindness, perseverance, helping others and being part of a team. All the players fight for the same objective but we also have to enjoy. I have made fantastic friends all these years. I don’t think that football is only 22 men and a ball, football helps you improve.

In my opinion, sport, like many things in life, has a good and a bad part. For me, sport is a way of life and we could learn a lot of good things. Sportsmanship is one of them.

  11. Sport is very necessary in our lives, all of us should do it because it is beneficial for our health.
When you are little you usually play many sports, but when we grow up we play less and less sports, because we don't have time and many times because we don't want to, but even if we don't want to we have to try.

When we are little our parents and our coaches teach us what sportsmanship is.
Sportsmanship is a very important thing in sport and if you don't have it you can't consider yourself a good athlete, because people have to have respect for our teammates.
I think that if you don't have sportsmanship, you won't be able to play any sport.

From my point of view, the best athletes are those who show respect towards their rivals, there are many people who like soccer, basketball... that's why the players of these teams must show sportsmanship among themselves, for their fans.

In my opinion, if you play sports it is to have a good time and not have fights with other people.
