BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

"Ant" expenses

"Ant expenses" is a term that is beginning to be associated with all these daily little expenses we carry out everyday.

Example: You wake up, get up, go to the bathroom and just leave for work or school without having anything to eat. As soon as you get to the office you desperately need a cup of coffee to have some energy to start work. That is just a couple of euros because you also get some biscuits, but that expense on a daily basis means a lot at the end of the month.

they are things that we consume on a daily basis and that have a relatively low cost, i.e. all those essential expenses that we need before we start doing anything else”.

Ant Expenses Explained – The Silent Killers of Your Budget

It is obvious that all these "ant" expenses are unnecessary as you can have your cup of coffee and something to eat for no more than half the price you pay. Besides, it is much healthier since you can brush your teeth and have them clean the whole morning.

What other ant expenses can you think of?

But perhaps it is no time to dance with all the problems we have in our world: climate change and its consequences, unemployment, the future for our younger generations, economy...

Very soon we we will be having one of Albert-coded exams and, although he is said to have a heart of gold, all that glitters is not gold, as he is the hardest teacher we have this year. Everybody says that we are as good as gold, which is an opinion he doesn't seem to share. Anyway, to put things nicely, he is really worth his weight in gold.... but for the worst!! Here you've presented with 4 expressions connected with gold. and one with -coded. You can check the meaning of each of them just below in the English in a Minute section and the English We Speak section.

Breakfast, the key to a healthy life!

Breakfast is and has always been very important in our lives and in all the civilisations around the world. Why? Because it gives you the energy to face the rest of the day. Soldiers in the front, farmers in their fields, clerks at the office, students and teachers at school...

Listening exercise for you to do:   Is breakfast the most important meal of the day?  (6 Minute English, BBC Learning English)

What does the singer of the song "Breakfast in America" want for breakfast? Listen to the song and tell me the answer in your comment. Besides, What do you usually have for breakfast?

In our English classes early in the morning we have got a big problem we haven't solved so far: Certain students arrive, put their schoolbags on their desks and are out like a light as soon as Albert starts talking. After some research a fact has shed light on this problem: our students don't have enough (or anything at all) for breakfast!!! Will there be light at the end of the tunnel?  I hope so. After reading this post maybe our students will see the light and stop giving no importance to breakfast. Here you've presented with 4 expressions connected with light. You can check the meaning of each of them just below in the English in a Minute section.
