BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Legends are no fake

What do you need to become a legend? Either individually or as a team this is no simple matter. It is something very difficult to accomplish and it requires a consistent effort along a reasonably long period achieving goals and having success every now and then.

That would be the case of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic or our Rafa Nadal. That would be also the case of our national basketaball team both men's and women's, and so would be the case of our national football team in the past when Iniesta, Casillas, Xavi... played.

You can also become a kind of legend, locally speaking. In our school Anna Rodríguez, Bernhard Grell or Clara Prados also had great results in the selectivity exams and will always be among the most positive memories of our IES Mediterraneo School and so will that generation that finished in 2018 (UNBEATABLE) and had incredible results in the Selectivity exams and also succeeding in passing B1 and B2 exams both in French and English. They are all also a legend in our school, at least for me!

  1. Higuita was an important goalkeeper in the 90s and changed football forever. His style of play seems very new to me for that time, in which the goalkeepers didn´t play with their feet or leave the area.
I was surprised to learn that FIFA changed one of its rules for Higuita, since after that change the goalkeeper can´t catch the ball that comes from a teammate. His most famous move was the "scorpion" it was a very different move that hadn´t been done before and I think it´s a very difficult save to make.
He retired in 2009 and is currently a goalkeeping coach in the United Arab Emirates. I would like to see a goalkeeper who plays the same as him in current football.

  4. A good example of a legend is Cristiano Ronaldo, he is known as one of the greatest players in football history (for me the GOAT). He was born in Madeira on 5th February in 1985.

He was poor, and he used to live in a house without more than a kitchen, two beds and a bathroom. He would play football in the streets until he started to play in his town's football team. Cristiano was a very talented player, and Sporting Lisbon had much interest in him because of all the goals he had scored during all the season. In a match between these two teams, Cristiano scored 2 goals, and Sporting called him with the intention to bring him to the team.

Cristiano grew in Sporting, being one of the best promises in all Europe. In a friendly match between the first team of Sporting and Manchester United, Cristiano scored a goal, and played that well, so Manchester United took him to their team.

After a few years in Manchester, Cristiano won the Ballon d'Or, the rest of his career is history.

  5. Tony Hawk is without doubt one of the greatest legends of skateboarding. He has been the only skateboarder in history to have achieved sponsors at the young age of 12, in becoming pro at 14 and the best skateboarder in the world at 16. Born in San Diego, California, Hawk carried out a career of more than 17 years, in which he won more than 70 skateboarding contests, and he got a gold medal in the X Games in 1995 and 1997. In addition, he was crowned world champion of vertical skateboarding for 12 consecutive years.

He always competed for skateboarding. He was never implicated in other sports throughout his career, not even during the decline of skateboarding in the 90's. At that moment, Hawk decided to open a skate themed shop (clothes, skateboards, etc.) with his family, in this way he launched his famous skateboarding video games.

Nowadays Tony Hawk is considered the best skateboarder of the world for his hard-working skills and trajectory, and for being the first skateboarder to achieve a 900 degree turn in the half pipe.

Also he created the Tony Hawk Foundation, which has dedicated to contributing for build of skateboarding parks in EE.UU, especially in poor and low resources areas.

  6. Trautmann joined Manchester United in the 1940s as a teenager. For several years, he played on the club's lower levels and served his country as a paratrooper in World War II. During battle, Trautmann received a concussion and a broken leg. However, he refused medical treatment so he could return to duty to help his country win the war. After returning home, he became an Olympic gold medalist on German soil while leading his team to victory without their leader. Eventually, his teammates named their newborn son after him to honor his sacrifice.

  7. Roger Federer is of the best tennis players in history. His way of playing has led him to win 20 Grand Slam titles, he also holds the record of spending 310 weeks at the top of the ATP world rankings.
Something I like about this athlete is his elegance and humility both on and off the court. In my opinion, he is a player who inspires other young tennis players around the world, in recent years he has had some injuries that have kept him from competing. I was impressed by the good relationship that Federer has with Rafael Nadal, despite being rivals on the court, they have mutual respect and admiration. I was surprised by the images of Federer´s retirement with Nadal, they looked like true friends.

  8. José René Higuita Zapata was born in Medellín on August 27, 1966. He is a former soccer player and coach who worked as a goalkeeper. He has had a great career as a player going through clubs like Atlético Nacional, Real Valladolid, Cartagena...

We must not forget why many young people remember him and have him as a legend because thanks to his great character he made the save that only he has made and that scorpion that he made with Colombia to stop the rival's shot will be unrepeatable.

In his palms he has 2 Colombian Championships, 1 Copa Libertadores and 2 Inter-American Cups.
