BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Don't tell porkies!

Don't tell porky pies and always be honest!!

What does this expression mean? Do you know any synonym expressions? (See below for the solutions). Anyway, you should always avoid telling porkies as they don't take you anywhere.

The English We Speak: Telling porkies       (BBC Learning English)

Explaining the idiom: "Tell porkies"

Actually, few people can avoid telling porky pies, but why?

Why do we tell porkies to our GP? The Guardian

What does GP stand for? It stands for General Practitioner, that is to say, a doctor based in the community who treats patients with minor or chronic illnesses and refers those with serious conditions to a hospital.

I'm having a party, wanna come?

It's Saturday and you may be going out tonight, perhaps to a party?

However, before going to a party you should do all your homework and and all the house chores your parents tell you to do.

So, let's begin with a listening exercise:

Paragraph 2- Plans and decisions using the GOING TO future.

Paragraph 3- Arrangements using the Present Continuous

Paragraph 4- Dreams and Advice using the Hypothetical Condtionals (Type 2) > here you will insert your corrected comment.

In your writing exercise these things will be included (page 80 from your textbook):

>> Expressions of result: , so  // . For this reason, ... //   . As a result, ...

>> Expressions of opinion: In my opinion, / I think...

>> different from / the same as / similar to

Here's my musical hint for today:   Party for Two by Shania Twain ft. Billy Currington. Come on, you can sing along with this version with the lyrics!

By the way, what does "ft." stand for? According to Quora, ...

It's short for ‘featuring’, and also is sometimes written as “feat.”. Seen with another artist's (or multiple featuring artists') name, for example;

“Jane Smith - Song ft. John Smith”.

In which Jane Smith is the main artist of ‘Song' and John Smith is a featuring artist, often having a shorter part in the song than the main artist.

I told you!

Yes, I told you that the way you sit in class can affect your health and the way you learn. I have told you so many things so as to learn more and better, again not because I'm incredibly smart, but because I've got the experience of so many years teaching and I have behaved like an old wise owl!

By the way, do you know the story of the old wise owl? Listen to the song (nursery rhyme) and discover:

And you can also read the story about it.

Going back to the way we sit, here's an interesting listening exercise for you to do: Why sitting is bad for health (6 Minute English, BBC Learning English)
