BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Who in the hell do you think you are?

Here's a rough expression you should not really use unless you get so furious that you are about to explode. Anyway, this is a colloquial expression to be used in the context of a bar or among friends.

Sometimes you've got to take the rough way to make your students do what you think it is the best for them and the way you say it not because you are smarter than anyone, but because you have gone through these situations a thousand times.

Don't worry! A time to chill out (let loose) will come soon but after achieving our goals. Here's a nice expression to learn regarding this. Tell me people, animals or other things you can let loose.

Good from far, but far from good!

Many times you see things, people... from far that look really stunning, amazing, gorgeous... but once you come closer to them you realise they are not so good (that is really the meaning of "good from far, far from good"). Actually this expression could be compared with what happens with first impressions.

Good From Far, but...

good from far , far from good

You may have an absolutely fantastic impression of a person or a place, who/which later turns out to be a complete fake. So, always take your time before making up your mind.

Have a look at this post: Seve O'Kelly. Who is he?  and you will discover a real true story that happened to me long, long time ago. My first impression was quite shocking, but eventually I had one of the best experiences in my life with such a loving care Irish host family. By the way, we will shortly be celebrating St Patrick's Day!

The students finally twigged their English teacher was right

Discussions, arguments, controversies... Students and teachers never seem to come to an agreement until it is already too late... usually for students because we must always remember the story of the old wise owl ( I told you! )

The English We Speak: Twig (BBC Learning English)

In my case, it is the same! It is just worthless when years later, one day on the tennis court and me struggling to move on a tennis court, they tell me: "If we had listened to you..., now we wouldn't have this or that problem". It is really a shame!
