BEING A TEACHER....

BEING A TEACHER IS A DIFFICULT TASK NOWADAYS, SO I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS PIECE OF ADVICE BY BRUCE LEE:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Roman engineer wanted for Rules reservoir

Twenty years ago the Rules reservoir (or dam) was built and we are still waiting for the water canalizations to be done and the hydroelectric exploitation bidding process is still to be started. It is just amazing with all the droughts we have gone through in the region and the electric bill crisis.

How will it be done and how long will it take them? We still don't know, but perhaps we'd better look for a Roman engineer to do it! They were such incredible problem-solvers!!

Here you've got several documents for you to analise so as to see how  The Roman Aqueducts   worked.

For further information visit The Archeology Channel for Roman Engineering

We've been waiting for so long and at last it seems politicians have agreed to make a move, or is it just a 'fake' move because of the coming elections.

The singer in my musical hint for today is also waiting: Waiting for a Girl like you by Foreigner. Here's a version with the lyrics for you to sing along!!

  2. TENNIS

Tennis is a fun sport for children and adults. You play it on a tennis court. You use a racket,a net and tennis balls. You must hit the ball with your racket. You should hit very hard. You can't throw your racket. You mustn't kick the ball. You receive a point for each time opponent fails to hit the ball. You win a game when you get 4 points with a difference of two. Every 6 games you win a set with a difference of two. You win a match when you win 2 sets out of 3 or 3 out of 5. When you tie in a game you have deuce, then you must win two points in a row. When you tie in a set, you must play a tie-break.

  5. Romans are known for their distinguished engineering feats, be it roads, bridges, tunnels or impressive aqueducts. Their construction, many of which are still standing, are a testament to their superior engineering skills and ingenuity. Roman engineers improved on old ideas and inventions to introduce a large number of innovations. They developed materials and techniques that revolutionized the construction of bridges and aqueducts, perfected ancient weapons and developed new ones, while inventing machines that exploited the power of water. Roman engineering achievements generated much wealth and prosperity, which improved the daily lives of the Romans and helped Rome maintain its dominance in Europe and the Mediterranean for centuries.

One of the most important Roman contributions to construction technology was the invention of concrete. Concrete allowed the construction of impressive buildings, such as the Pantheon, and influenced the construction of bridges and harbors. Roman concrete or opus caementicium was invented in the late III century B.C., when builders added a volcanic powder called pozzolana to mortar made from a mixture of brick or rock chips, lime or gypsum and water. The pozzolana, which contained both silica and alumina, generated a chemical reaction that increased the cohesion of the mortar dramatically.

Rome experienced a period known as the "Concrete Revolution", which involved rapid advances in its composition, where they managed to obtain various types of mortar with a multitude of different characteristics, such as impermeability, greater strength, plasticity, adherence, etc.

  6. I ask myself these questions after seeing the images of Camilla being crowned, with all the ceremonial that a coronation requires, as Queen of all Britons. Queen without discussion, because it was Elizabeth II herself who expressed her support for her to become Queen Consort, and after her death and when the coronation took place, she has been elevated to her majesty Camilla, Queen of the United Kingdom. Queen, as they say vulgarly, "with all the irons".

There are many to whom this still seems impossible. And they pinch themselves when they see pictures of the royal couple smiling with their crowns. And those who still think of Princess Diana and the suffering caused to her by the now monarch and, no doubt, "the other wife".

Also a woman who during the complicated coronation ceremony - at least to me - she looked a bit giddy, tired, and not very eager to be moved around!

Apart from this, the question that intrigues me is to know if this triumph of Charles and Camilla is the proof that there is an eternal love that has triumphed in spite of all the obstacles they confronted along the way.
